2It will be interesting to see how the team responds tonight and to be honest I'm not expecting much.

9Well this team is pretty awful.

11We've got one of the best coaches in the League and these sad sacks have rolled over and quit less than two months into his tenure.
Drastic changes have to happen.

12No wonder why they don't want to bring up any prospects from Springfield. Once you get the stink of losing on, it doesn't come off.
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
15Colorado took their foot off the gas after the first period and coasted to a win knowing this Blues team was thoroughly beaten.
This is a huge problem to work through for the Blues coaches and front office.
Honestly, it's tank time for the rest of the season but there needs to be some effort from these players to salvage their jobs.

16I got blacked out again for yet another game..: fuck the nhl… I’m done with them. I said it before, and I found my way back to watching, but no more. My grandkid will be back to playing high-school softball soon. She’s much more fun to watch than these 8 million dollar cream puffs… I’ll still drop by here once in a while, but I don’t care what the Blues do… I’ve never seen a business try to run off customers like the nhl.
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
17Army needs to field trades for Kyrou and Buch. Not because they are awful but because they are highly tradable assets and the core and shape of this roster needs a major shake up.

18This. Team. Is. Pathetic.
Without parayko, we have no defense.
We have no offense regardless.
Our goalies are average. Our coaching (outside of monty) is ahl at best.
We need a fire sale and just re-try...army is leaving a dumpster fire for steen.
Army fucked steen and doesn't seem to care.

Now now, the Canadian Government has apologized for Bryan Adams on SEVERAL occasions!
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
19Not to go baseball mode and I can't stand Mo of the Cardinals, but to his credit, he is turning over the team to the new GM in waiting with a pretty clean slate. No real contract burdens and not signing new people. Army is doing the opposite, he keeps putting his finger prints all over this roster and turning over a really bad situation with a lot of bad contracts to the new GM.Ozzies09tc wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 9:17 am This. I love Buch but that is a contract that should not have been made for a retooling team with a GM on the way out.

Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
20With the cap increases they've announced, i don't think the contract situation is nearly that bad. When Steen takes over they'll have $60M committed to a cap of $104M. That includes Krug, who might never play again, and assumes no other movement. Army has signed some crappy contracts, but Steen isn't coming into some bleak situation, there will be plenty of room to operate. The bigger issue is just that they don't have enough good hockey players. Not all of the kids are going to hit, so there will be a need to add talent, but Steen should have enough cap space to work with.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
21I don’t care about cap space, I’m talking about roster space. You think Stillman is just going to spend to the cap and have 7 d men making over 5 million or something? An entire 3rd line making over 6 million?Dave's a mess wrote: Sun Feb 02, 2025 10:28 am With the cap increases they've announced, i don't think the contract situation is nearly that bad. The Blues are not in a position to cover up bad contracts with more contracts.

We're actually shedding our older players pretty quickly.
Saad (32) is gone with no cap retention, that's $4.5 mil off the books
Krug (33) will likely not play again (IMHO), so his $6.5 mil won't count.
Leddy (33) may also be in the same boat, so his $4 mil won't count either.
Schenn (33) and Faulk's (32) NTCs turn into “list 15/16 team” clauses this Summer, making them much more tradeable. (They're both making $6.5 mil)
(If Krug and/or Leddy actually do come back, their NTCs also become modified like these)
Fowler (33) has one year left at $4 mil (Anaheim is covering the other $2.5 mil), and has a 4 team trade list. So far, I think that's well worth it.
Suter's (40) contract will be up this season (though for what he brings on the bottom pairing, another $775k + bonuses would be fine by me)
Faksa's (31) contract will also be up this year, that's another $3.25 mil off
Sundqvist (30) has one more year at $1.5 mil (no protections)
Parayko (31) has three more years at $6.5 mil, full NTC. IMHO, he's been our best defenseman all season, even if he drops off a little after this year, that's still pretty good value for a big-minute RHD.
Binnington (31) has 2 more years at $6 mil with an 18 team no-trade list.
That's everyone currently over 30.
Before any more roster moves, next year we'll have only four forwards that make more than $4 mil, one of whom is Schenn (see above). On defense we'll have three players making more than $5 mil, one of whom is Krug (see above) and another is Faulk (again, see above).
We're very quickly going to become a much younger team with a lot of contract and cap room, a lot of solid young talent to develop or deal, and a very good coach. IMHO, Armstrong is leaving Steen with a lot of options and flexibility after this Summer.
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
23Yes, when Steen takes over, many of those contracts will have expired, and others will probably have been moved. Steen is not coming into a bad situation at all. Schenn is the only deal that will be a real sore spot by then, and it will only have 2 years left. Faulk will have one year, but I bet he's gone before them. I really don't understand the Army is screwing Steen argument at all. There are loads of room both in cap and roster spots in summer 2026 if you look at any of the CapFriendly replacements.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
24My "army is screwing steen" argument is this "re-tool" has turned in to a "re-build".
We're not making the playoffs. This is year 3. Army leaves, steen takes over. We dont make the playoffs for prob another 2 or 3 years, thats 5 yrs minimum no playoffs...next time commit to a rebuild, or admit defeat and step down... Don't pussy-foot it and leave us in perpetual limbo as we are in now...wasting some of binners best years, Parayko's best years, buch's best yrs, etc

Re: GDT: Blues at Colorado 8:00 1/31
25Those players know what the score is. If they wanted out they would be asking to be moved. They're committed to the process. It's not like Armstrong put an inferior product on the ice. He went out and made moves. It's on the players to perform and they didnt. He can't control that.Ozzies09tc wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:17 am My "army is screwing steen" argument is this "re-tool" has turned in to a "re-build".
