Blues 2024-2025 Season Thread

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” – J.P. Morgan
It's a new season, with new Blues and new optimism.

This is a pivotal year in the "retool" and I'm excited for the Blue's future. We've had a lot of change and we have a lot of prospects on the horizon. The management of the team has shrewdly restocked this team and I think we can all see the light at the end of the tunnel and future success.

I think we have a 50/50 shot to make the playoffs but I'm trying to keep my expectations realistic.

Players assigned to Springfield are Jeremie Biakabutuka, Michael Buchinger, Will Cranley, Tanner Dickinson, Dalibor Dvorsky, Colten Ellis, Marc-Andre Gaudet, Samuel Johannesson, Aleksanteri Kaskimaki, Leo Loof, Anton Malmstrom, Dylan Peterson and Marcus Sylvegard.

Anton Dorion was assigned to his junior team.

Good to see some names on this list that have legit NHL potential. Buchinger got good reviews this training camp.

STL: Skinner, McGing, MacEachern, Laferriere
Good for him, somehow getting Army to give him a two year fully guaranteed deal. Still collecting those paychecks
Living large in the "A"
Sadly this just means he's buying all the team dinners at Chili's.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

Alexandrov signs. Persistence pays off but I'm not sure I see a place for him on the roster.
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the team has signed forward Nikita Alexandrov to a one-year, two-way contract ($775,000 NHL / $150,000 AHL).

Blues sporting a fairly "Opening Night-y" lineup.

Saad skating with the scratches because his wife is going to give birth any day now and will likely miss a game or two. It will be interesting to see where he slots in when he comes back. Is Bolduc on line 2 a reflection of Saad's absence, or his strong play in camp?

That forward group has some real depth now.
I'm not sure I would have Tex on the 4th line, but at the same time I'm not sure who you would move around to fit him higher in the lineup.
KA-KAW!

We are definitely deeper. I'd like to see more creativity in the line construction but they are NHL coaches and safe is what they always do.

I agree we SHOULD be deeper. But we also thought the same last year and then guys like Vrana, Kap, and Blais all flopped.

I'm prepared to go out on a limb and say the new additions have a lot less question marks than last year's crop. 😄

I'm not sure, but I think this is the first time Kyrou/Thomas have been split up this preseason. Saad will slot in the top 9 somewhere after his baby is born, but it's an interesting new look that seems to be rewarding the guys that have played well so far, specifically Holloway and Texier. The D looks like your surefire opening night pairings.

I don't LOVE the idea of putting our best playmarker with two grinders/lack of finish guys but we'll see. The entire left side of this team from forwards down to defense is incredibly bottom heavy.

I wouldn't call neighbours a "grinder/lack of finish guy" as he was (basically) a 30 goal scorer last season...
Now now, the Canadian Government has apologized for Bryan Adams on SEVERAL occasions!

He's not a finisher in hockey terms is what I mean. He's a clean up the rebound, get in the way, and deflect shots of the finisher. Thomas isn't passing him one timers in the slot.

No one calls Tomas Holmstrom a finisher.

Didnt think of it like that, but you're absolutely right.

When's the last "finisher" we've had tho? Tank? Idk if I'd consider him a finisher tho bc he had no slapper/one-time threat...
