A little Monday morning check in on the season after 28 games. The Blues are currently 4 points back of Colorado for the final Wild Card spot, with 1 game in hand. There are 3 other teams between them and the Avs. If you don't think they're going to make it, they're currently in 21st overall, which would give the Blues the 12th pick. There are a bunch of teams within a point or two, so they could slide down to as low as 25th, though that seems unlikely.
The Monty era is off to a great start, with his only loss coming to a team that was a game away from winning the Cup last year. Heath is improving with Broberg and Faulk returning to the lineup recently, and for better or worse, Leddy seems close as well. This is probably bad news for Perunovich, who has seen his ice time slip under Montgomery, but has started to look more comfortable this season. I believe he's currently on PP1, so maybe somehow he does stay in the lineup when Leddy returns. Other personnel developments of late have been the end of the Buchnevich at Center experiment, and an increase in confidence from Bolduc.
Personally, I'm hoping the team can challenge for a Wild Card spot, but see winding up a bubble team that misses out. I'll be interested to see how roles shake out on the backend in particular when the team is healthy, and how that plays into next season. If Dvorsky continues his strong season in Springfield, does he get a call up at some point? It'd be interesting to see him get a taste, but I like the idea of him getting as much development as possible in the AHL. The season has gotten a lot more interesting lately after looking like it'd be easy to check out a few weeks ago.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
