Schenn's contract makes him pretty much untradeable.

Schenn has three seasons left on his contract after this one at a $6.5M cap hit.

He's untradeable.

Yeah, shy of retaining 50% for the next three years just to offload him, no team is taking it.

He's going to be playing in the upcoming World Jrs. It's going to be a real measuring stick to see how he has progressed.

A little Monday morning check in on the season after 28 games. The Blues are currently 4 points back of Colorado for the final Wild Card spot, with 1 game in hand. There are 3 other teams between them and the Avs. If you don't think they're going to make it, they're currently in 21st overall, which would give the Blues the 12th pick. There are a bunch of teams within a point or two, so they could slide down to as low as 25th, though that seems unlikely.

The Monty era is off to a great start, with his only loss coming to a team that was a game away from winning the Cup last year. Heath is improving with Broberg and Faulk returning to the lineup recently, and for better or worse, Leddy seems close as well. This is probably bad news for Perunovich, who has seen his ice time slip under Montgomery, but has started to look more comfortable this season. I believe he's currently on PP1, so maybe somehow he does stay in the lineup when Leddy returns. Other personnel developments of late have been the end of the Buchnevich at Center experiment, and an increase in confidence from Bolduc.

Personally, I'm hoping the team can challenge for a Wild Card spot, but see winding up a bubble team that misses out. I'll be interested to see how roles shake out on the backend in particular when the team is healthy, and how that plays into next season. If Dvorsky continues his strong season in Springfield, does he get a call up at some point? It'd be interesting to see him get a taste, but I like the idea of him getting as much development as possible in the AHL. The season has gotten a lot more interesting lately after looking like it'd be easy to check out a few weeks ago.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

Very well said. I'm struggling to find a path to the playoffs. You have the Blues, Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Avs and Seattle. You have to find 3 teams of that bunch the Blues will be better than.

Yup. Unless you're getting a really high pick, the cultural damage done by repeatedly playing meaningless games in March/April is severe. If they miss out I hope they take it late at least.

Depending on the return we could get, I could see the Blues trading Saad to a 'real' contender at the deadline and bringing up Dvorsky for the remainder of the season

Saad needs a change of scenery. Time to go, if there are any takers.

Barring another injury the Blues have a looming problem on defense. With the imminent return of Nick Leddy the Blues will have 8 active Dmen on their roster and one may have to be waived and sent to the minors.

What do you feel should happen in this case?

I'm sure we'd all like to see Leddy moved but that isn't likely.

Someone needs to hit Leddy in the foot with a slap shot at practice.

That's why I brought it up. As it was a topic of discussion on that podcast.

If they have to send someone down I really am torn on who they would actually have to choose to clear waivers and go down.

If anything, sadly, i think perun up'd his trade value and will be dealt just before leddy comes back.. and i dont want him gone, BUT....

They could send Kessel down but then they would have to play a Dman on the wrong side.

Remember, kessel is getting dangerously close to playing too many games to skip waivers and the longer leddy is out the more we flirt with that issue...

Well this roster does include one LD that can play big minutes, has a low cap hit and would surely be willing to be traded to a contender to chase a Cup if they need to free up a spot...
