Its a 2nd rdr in 2027... If we're still relying on that pick, this is a full rebuild not a re-tool
I wanna be contending by then so the pick would be worth dick regardless
Huh? I'm talking about Leddy, not Fowler.
We are moving PoJo to make room for Leddy or so it seems.
I agree with what you've been saying. Trading PoJo isn't going to alter the course of this season all that much likely. however, it just boggles my mind that for a team that is supposedly retooling, we continue to just get older and not younger. That seems backwards from what you'd want to do, especially if we are just continuing to miss the playoffs.
We can talk about how some of these prospects will be ready in two years but you aren't making the playoffs or a contender with a bunch of rookies in your roster, that's what the retool purpose is for. Just look at the Hawks and Red Wings how young teams do trying to make the playoffs. You're still a couple years away when those guys start filtering into the lineup.
If we are going to watch players suck, I'd much rather watch someone like Zach Dean suck on the 3rd/4th line to Faksa suck on the 4th line.
Army's obsession with veterans is only useful when you have a team that is competing for something. He seems constantly stuck between two minds.
It's interesting, the forward group has gotten younger but the D has gotten older for the most part, even with Broberg. The big question for me is what happens when Leddy returns. With the POJO trade, they currently have 6 healthy D. The only forwards that can be sent down without passing through waivers are Neighbours and Bolduc, and they're not going anywhere. That means they'll either have to make a trade or expose someone to waivers. If there's not a perfectly timed trade, they'll have to choose between sending Perunovich down, or a depth forward, and risk losing whoever it is. Between the risk of losing him and the fact that they probably don't like the idea of having only 6 D in St. Louis, I'm thinking it'd be a forward.
The other question becomes how long does Leddy stay in St. Louis if he returns and stays healthy. It absolutely cannot be a coincidence that Armstrong got the Ducks to eat just enough of Fowler's cap hit that Fowler's exactly matches Leddy's. If you're able to move him and send down a forward, they can bring Kessel or someone else back up.
In a vacuum, I think part of the POJO trade was just doing him a solid as it became clear he wasn't going to see the ice much anymore. I don't know how this winds up, but I'd be surprised if there aren't more moves to come in the next 6 weeks or so.
