Re: 2024 NHL Draft Thread
126UGH. Damn I got my hopes up so much there.
Just a Russian propaganda account
That took way too long for a team to move up one spot.
LOL It was so anti-climatic.Dave's a mess wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:34 pmThat took way too long for a team to move up one spot.
Blues must not have likes Buium enough to pony up a second.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:37 pmLOL It was so anti-climatic.Dave's a mess wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:34 pmThat took way too long for a team to move up one spot.
Pick grade: B+
Thoughts on the pick: The Blues had a clear need for more blue-line talent in their system, and Jiricek was a clear fit here on talent and need. He’s a big right-shot who can skate, move the puck, and make stops. He projects as a top four defenseman for them one day and becomes the clear best young defenseman in their system.
Blues must of really liked the kid to take him. His brother played 40 games last year 2 years after his draft. So maybe we see this kid up here in 3 years? Blues have been hot on picks so we’ll have to trust them. Guess they didn’t have Hage high on their board cause he was still out there.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:17 pm Drafting a guy who isn’t even skating and is months away from being healthy is a big risk at 16. Could turn out to be a buy low risk and they end up with a steal years from now. Could also be taking a guy who had now missed a year of development and never regains his full potential.
I’ll agree to that but the Blues had to of done their homework on the kid and obviously aren’t concerned about his health being a problem. Let’s hope they nailed it.BluesSK wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:18 am I'm nervous about the Jiricek pick. The kid is really light. 167 pounds. To have two knee issues and being that weight is concerning when you consider he's gonna need to add about forty pounds to his frame..
I would have been more comfortable moving down and taking Solberg if they were dead set on drafting D.
Need a dance partner in the right range to trade down and still get a guy you like. Seems unlikely in a draft like this one.BluesSK wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:18 am I'm nervous about the Jiricek pick. The kid is really light. 167 pounds. Yeah apparently Buffalo was desperate to get out of 14 and couldn’t find a dance partner. This draft died after the top 12. From there the next 20 or so guys weren’t all that different. It’s why the Sharks and Wild were smart to trade into it.Dave's a mess wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 7:19 amNeed a dance partner in the right range to trade down and still get a guy you like. “Adam Jiříček is a well-rounded, two-way defenseman who doesn’t excel at one certain skill but plays a polished game. He’s not as aggressive as his older brother David but doesn’t shy away from physical play and has the potential to be a solid all-around top-four defenseman at the NHL level.” – Matej Deraj, McKeen’s Hockey
