You just don't see marathon fights like this often anymore! A great tilt and props to the linesmen cause there were chances to end it.Ozzies09tc wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:36 amWatched that in real time. They kept going and going! Don't see fights like that...ever...
The last time he played the blackhawks and was nearing a milestone, he scored a hat trick in a 7-3 blowout, scoring his 798th, 799th, and 800th goals of his career.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 9:00 am Ovi is now 3 away with 7 to go. I think he gets there this year.
I went back and looked because it's a fun topic but didn't really see anyone disagree with you, unless you're referencing a different time. Everyone just replied how much they like Ovi.BillP. wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 12:32 pm Just for the record, years ago I brought up the Ovechkin/Gretzky chase and had said I think he's going to do it. I think maybe 1 other guy here thought the same. And I'm talking like 6 to 8 years ago. It wasn't even a topic then. I just thought the guy would pull it off. The man is a machine!!
Also made me notice some old forum members we haven't seen in awhile. Including missourimook who seems to still lurk but not post.BillP. wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:40 amThe guy is indestructible. Hopefully there is no strike, cause I think he will catch Gretzky and that is unthinkable, especially in today’s game, but I think he’s going to do it provided he stays an iron man.Ozzies09tc wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:13 pm with the hat trick tonight, Ovechkin ties Mike Gartner and Jaromir Jagr for most consecutive 30-goal seasons (15)
love him or hate him, he is damn good
The search a post is hard. I tried once just now but I'm at work and can't play with it. Maybe later. But my original post went further back because I know had crunched the numbers on it. Thanks for looking. And you're right about the posters. Where did Barnburner go? He hasn't been around for a few years now. Miss him and the others too.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote:I went back and looked because it's a fun topic but didn't really see anyone disagree with you, unless you're referencing a different time. Montreal is soon going to have a powerhouse team, too. I don't think it'll be long before we see a Blues-Candiens Stanley Cup Final.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 8:54 pm The Bruins have lost their edge. How are you letting the Canadians just laugh in the face of your goalie
I agree with you. They are stacked.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 9:54 pm Suddenly Dallas is just two points behind the Jets. That’s the team I’d like to avoid as long as possible.
That would be kind of cool. And you could be right. Blues came back and played Boston a 2nd time in the Cup. How bout coming back and playing Montreal a 3rd time. So far, they're the only 2 Cup opponents in Blues history.RAFritchey wrote:Montreal is soon going to have a powerhouse team, too. I just noticed that last night. Unreal. Definitely give me Vegas - haDread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Suddenly Dallas is just two points behind the Jets. That’s the team I’d like to avoid as long as possible.
Nothing fancy about it either.Ozzies09tc wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:50 pm OV tied the lead.
My gf and I both shed a tear.
This won't happen again in our lifetimes.
AND it took OV 1 game less... Truly the gr8est goal scorer ever. EVER.
If you want to get fancy about it, “era adjusted” goals put him at over 1,000.BillP wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 11:02 pmNothing fancy about it either.Ozzies09tc wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:50 pm OV tied the lead.

Just pure power.
To the think he accomplished this as a power forward with a ton of punishing hits year after year his whole career makes it even more incredible.
Such a funny draft class too cause it went Ovi, then Malkin, then the Hawks took Cam Barker. How different it’d be if the lottery worked out different.T.C. wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 6:23 amIf you want to get fancy about it, “era adjusted” goals put him at over 1,000.BillP wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 11:02 pmNothing fancy about it either.Ozzies09tc wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:50 pm OV tied the lead.

All with the lockout and covid seasons.
If he didn’t hit the scene around the same time as Crosby, he’d be far more popular. Also, this is the era of the NHL finding a marketable star on every team (even where there isn’t one) and pushing them regionally. Otherwise, this guy would have been the face of the NHL for the last two decades. Really kind of shitty how under the radar this guy is in terms of public knowledge. He’s creating history that (I know, are we going to say this again?) will “very likely” never been broken again. Isn’t this also the guy that was passionate enough about his country to tell the NHL to fuck off and went too play for them in the Olympics anyway? Memory is a little fuzzy on that last one but something about the Olympics.
Going to be a real shame when he’s done. Fuck Sid, fuck Geno, this is my NHL guy. Played hard as fuck, year after year, and still skated circles around everyone else. Who is the young equivalent? I mean, if Brady scored 40g on the reg, or if McJesus was significantly bigger and leveled people, maybe, but you know, they don’t. I feel very fortunate to have seen him play a couple times.
He's 3rd overall in hits in the NHL as well, since they started tracking themBillP wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 11:02 pmNothing fancy about it either.Ozzies09tc wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:50 pm OV tied the lead.

That is interestingDread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 6:26 pm Kings have played 1 more game but are only 1 point behind Vegas now. Hadn’t even considered them as a possible first round match up
