Both players have lower-body injuries and will be re-evaluated before the playoffs
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that forward David Backes and goaltender Jake Allen will miss the remainder of the regular season with lower-body injuries.
Both will be re-evaluated at the conclusion of the regular season.
Backes, 31, has dressed in all 79 games this season, ranking second on the club with 21 goals and fourth with 45 points overall. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native is currently in his 10th NHL season after being drafted by the Blues in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Backes has tallied 460 points (206 goals, 254 assists) and 969 penalty minutes in 727 career regular season games.
Allen, 25, has appeared in 47 games this season, posting a 26-15-3 record. In addition, he shares 10th overall with a .920 save percentage and second with six shutouts. The Fredriction, New Brunswick, native is currently in his third NHL season after being drafted by the Blues in the second round (34th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In 99 career regular season games, Allen has accumulated a 57-26-7 record, a 2.34 goals against average, a .915 save percentage and 11 shutouts.

4Backes must have played through the injury yesterday because I remember seeing him on the bench at the end of the game laughing with teamates. Maybe it happened at the very end. Either way, we need him for the playoffs of course. Hope it's nothing serious.
Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
5A rested and healthy Backes for the playoffs could be a big plus.
Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
6Has that ever happened? I'm thinking not.barnburner wrote:A rested and healthy Backes for the playoffs could be a big plus.
Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
7Rest Backes while Keith is resting... those two will certainly be coming together at some point... Make sure David is ready to go...
Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
8Yeah based on yesterday I'm reading Backes' situation as being extra cautious. I assume he'll be rested and fired up for Game 1. With Allen there's more concern, but at least this closes out any semblance of a goaltending controversy. Hope Jake's ready to roll in 10 days.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

13strickland now says allen injury separate from his previous injury.

14He must have gotten injured following his post-game interview, 'cause he was fine then, and he was joking about how 'Ders gives Hitch more options.T.C. wrote:JR on twatter wrote:As @tomtimm noted, Backes was on the ice with about 3 min to go against Colorado, assisting on Brouwer's goal. Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
15I'm wondering if this is the same injury that was plaguing him earlier in the year when he wasn't skating in practices. Could be that Hitch decided this was the time to set him down and get it healed up before the playoffs.

16I'm thinking Army probably took him out of Hitch's toolbox so that he can get some rest.barnburner wrote:I'm wondering if this is the same injury that was plaguing him earlier in the year when he wasn't skating in practices. Re: Backes & Allen miss rest of regular season
18I believe Backes said he was injured on the empty net play. It had to have happened when Johnson lost an edge and landed sort of up against Backes' leg. I'm thinking Johnson would not have lost an edge if his legs were stronger and his legs would be stronger if he hadn't rolled a golf cart over them. Rumor has it that the golf cart incident was the product of horseplay either initiated or advanced by Dan Hinote, who signed with the Blues as a free agent a couple of years prior to the incident. I blame Larry Pleau for Backes' injury. He shouldn't have signed Hinote.

19This is the correct take on the Backes injury. Anything else is pure nonsense.insideout wrote:I believe Backes said he was injured on the empty net play. 20Or we could blame jd and co for drafting ej instead of toes.
Toes would have a bad knee but not ran into backes?
