I like it.

The trade of Lee Stemniak for Alex Steeen and Carlo Colaiacovo was one of the first moves orchestrated by Armstrong when he first came to the Blues as director of player personnel so this has really come full circle.

Alex Steen is a really cerebral guy who's been around hockey literally his whole life and he's been associated with the Blues since 2008. He knows the North American and European systems and I think he will slip into the position very well.

Holy Shit, now that's news!! Damn

Still think Army will have the final say on all transactions though.

I hope he lets Steen do his job and it's not a Cardinals situation where they hired a new GM but the President controlled everything still anyway.
I've never heard of Armstrong stepping on people's toes before so I can't imagine he will be that controlling.
I agree, but it is that concern cause the decision was not made because he's burnt out. He never has come across as a big ego guy and the draft videos I see of him, he seems to really value input from his hired team.

Maybe he has his eye on bigger things.

Toronto? 😄🤔

He's pretty involved with the Canadian programs too.

Yeah maybe, but he also signed an extension too so doubt he is actually going anywhere.

All I have to say is that Steen must be pretty impressive to get the love he does from Army. Pretty much orchestrated last years draft and now this promotion. Blues will be a European heavy team for sure in the near future. And that might not be a bad thing either. Steener was a good combo player in that he combined both finesse & grit, not too mention he was responsibly sound on the ice. Having a guy like that putting together a team sounds all right to me.

Could army be more open to buying out a player knowing he only has to deal with it for 2 years then it's steener's problem?

He's always been anti-buyout/dead cap space, but he finally hinted he may and now we have a gm in waiting...
Now now, the Canadian Government has apologized for Bryan Adams on SEVERAL occasions!

I doubt it. Cap space probably isn't going to be a major issue for the Blues right now with it going up. I think we are kind of stuck in this two year transition period waiting on bad contracts to fall off and the prospects to come along.

Plus, with the cap space going up it might be easier to find a taker for one of our D contracts that won't get vetoed by a NTC. Faulk, If not, Krug and Leddy all go from full NTC to a 15 team no trade list next offseason.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
