Agreed. It would give us full control of our prospect development.
Owning their own AHL team doesn't give an NHL team FULL control of their prospects pool, with players scattered across AHL & CHL & Europe. But it would give the Blues a basis for a player development strategy that isn't solely at the whim of another organization, or the annual trade or free agency markets.

I stand corrected. You expressed what I was trying to say a bit more eloquently. We are on the same page.

Coytes and Wild are playing an afternoon game as we speak. Wild are up 3-1 after 2. Coyotes are collapsing at just the right time. They have lost 4 in a row, and that's meant just as much if not more than the Blues winning streak in terms of evening this thing up. I'm almost surprised they didn't sell off a piece or two at the deadline. They don't have a first round pick this year, and desperately need one. Maybe they acquire one at the draft.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

That division is ridiculous and just kind of points out how this season once again does not count. Next season, when fans are back, the Blues will still be the defending cup champs.

So this is newsworthy:

OHL just didn't play at all this season. That's a rough outcome for a lot of parties, but mostly for those players. I'm not sure which Blues draft picks were still playing in the OHL, or if there were any at all. It's especially tough for guys eligible for the draft this year. As with all Covid stuff, I'm not here to say anyone is right or wrong, but man does this suck.

Don’t even get me started on how Canada has handled all this Covid bullshit.

As if the U.S. didn't have the same problems? Canadian major junior hockey suffered from provincial differences re. how to address pandemic concerns & manage the restrictions for the teams/leagues affected. This is the same thing that happened to U.S. junior & minor pro leagues spread across states & regions. The NHL hasn't done a stellar job of leaping those hurdles, either, but their money talks & has gotten them closer to the blurry finish line.

Desperately trying to thread that needle between hockey news and covid talk, haha. A quick look at the Blues recent drafts tells me they've selected 3 guys over the last 2 years that have been directly impacted by this:

Tanner Dickinson, C- 4th Rounder 2020
Will Cranley, G- 6th Rounder, 2020
Keenan Washkurak, C- 5th Rounder, 2019

All of the other prospects should have gotten some sort of season either in Europe, NCAA or the other North American junior leagues. The good news is none of the guys who missed out were high picks.
