So yeah, Hall really limited Buffalo's options...sounds like possibly only to Boston. I don't blame him, when you sign a one year deal with a full NTC on a team that's been bad for 10 years straight, this is exactly why.

Such an awful trade for Toronto. That was a total no brainer for Armstrong. (He wasn't yet GM at the time but it was his deal)

Steve Dangle did a really good video on Sportsnet's Youtube about how bad that trade was for Toronto vs how good it was for St. Louis. Toronto basically made like 3 or 4 moves after Stempniak didn't really work out for them and got like a total of 3 NHL games from the trades they made. They also traded a pick they acquired when they eventually traded Stempniak, to Washington that Washington used to draft Phillip Grubauer.

Hard to believe Anaheim and Montreal weren't able to get anything for those guys. With lots of teams looking for D and neither making a lot of money, they had to know they'd be claimed. Wonder if this opens up the market today given that you'd figure multiple teams put in claims and were waiting to see if they'd snagged either guy.

The other thing to watch for is what AZ does. Hopefully they sell off, but I don't know how they view their opportunity this season. Before we collapsed and gave them a chance, there were rumblings they'd blow it up. They don't have a first, and don't seem like a team on the rise just yet. We'll see.
