Insurance. It's hard to have too many NHL-level defensemen, especially with so many question marks already.

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

Army woke up this morning and said F Stan Bowman and fired a couple offer sheets at him. Quite interesting. Both were high draft picks, one the 8th pick the other the 14th. To satisfy the required compensation of the offer sheets should Edmonton choose to decline their right of first refusal, the B...

Re: News and Games around the NHL

I’m sure it’s happened but can anyone recall a time a team switched captains with the other still on the team and playing? https://twitter.com/darrendreger/status/1823131242553905294?s=46 Didn't Chris Pronger step down as captain in favor of Al MacInnis while still on the Blues? Brett Hull had the ...

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

It may seem like a long time, but it's only been about 18 months since we really started the 'retool.' I think we're about at the bottom now, and in another 18 months we'll start to emerge as a much better team, a perennial playoff team still on the upswing into a bona-fide cup contender. I don't se...

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

Gonna be a rough couple of years for the Blues and remember we are already going into year 3 of no playoffs. I expect them to be picking in the 11-14 range next June and I expect them picking in the top 8 come June 2026. Gonna take awhile for that new talent coming to push us over the top and get b...

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

I think if we are being honest with ourselves if Army had retired after the Cup and Bill Armstrong was named GM and every subsequent move was the same, we’d be a lot more critical of the job. Probably even calling for his job. Fair assessment and kinda agree. Kinda wish Doug woulda retired on top a...

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

I'd like to see how they're rating contract value. Perunovich is worth $2.3 mil, our best blueline contract? He hasn't even proven to be a regular NHLer. If he doesn't break through this season, he's probably out of the league for good. Leddy is worth only $2 mil? A solid, veteran, defensive, middle...

Re: Blues 2024 Offseason Thread:

Blues get a B+ for offseason moves Key players added: F Radek Faksa, D Pierre-Olivier Joseph, F Mathieu Joseph, F Alexandre Texier, D Ryan Suter Key players lost: F Kevin Hayes Remaining cap space: $7.25 million Coach status: Drew Bannister was an in-season replacement who is entering his first ful...

Re: News and Games around the NHL

I’m not totally up on the Wings roster but I get the impression that they don’t have much in young talent right now given they keep patching the team up with veteran signings. Their drafting lately must really suck. They should be loaded by now and that doesn’t seem to be the case. They've got one ...

Re: News and Games around the NHL

Just in general, or are they going someplace specific? Reinstated by the League. Nothing imminent as far as moves. “Reinstated”? into what? Is there some secret coaches society where they had to go through their making ceremony again? They are coaches, not players. I understand the acronym NHLPA, b...

Re: Blues trade Kevin Hayes to Pens

We're trading one of faulk/krug and kyrou for mitch marner E4 Still rumors the Canes are looking to deal Necas. Zegras apparently is available as well. Either Would be nice but if the Blues return next year with the exact same defense this offseason is a failure. I heard for the first time this mor...

Re: News and Games around the NHL

These teams are stuck between a rock and a hard place here. https://twitter.com/reporterchris/status/1807224644774334525 Well, “innocent until proven guilty” is the still the rule. Unless there's some kind of 'unethical / immoral behaviour' clause in either the CBA or individual contracts, the team...

Re: 2024 NHL Draft Thread

I think a lot of the difference in the Blues drafting this year as opposed to last year are two-fold:

-we had 3 first round picks last year, and only 1 this year

and

-the draft itself wasn't as deep and didn't have as much high-end talent in general.

Re: Blues trade Kevin Hayes to Pens

So the Blues now have about $16M in cap space. I know they talked about not trying to be a contender next year, but you wonder if something else is cooking. Maybe it's just a Buch extension, but that's a lot of cap space. Yeah, it does kinda feel like Armstrong's laying the groundwork for something...

Re: 2024 NHL Draft Thread

It’s finally here. Definitely my favorite day of the year, hockey related. Hoping this year we get some more movement before and during the draft. You guys already know my preferred list but man I really hope Army does something tonight. It’s time for him to make a statement. Also looking forward t...

Re: 2024 NHL Draft Thread

The Devils at 10 have been rumored open for business. “If we feel it helps us now and in the foreseeable future, then, yes, I’m listening,” New Jersey general manager Tom Fitzgerald told NHL.com on Monday during a break from interviews at the NHL Scouting Combine. “I haven’t gotten anything yet but...

Re: 2024 NHL Draft Thread

Anything short of moving up to grab one of the top 4 defensemen will feel disappointing to me. Doesn't mean I'll be upset with who they get, but not coming away with one of the 4 will feel like a missed opportunity. Who do you think will be looking to trade down? The Devils at 10 have been rumored ...
