Shatty was quoted as saying he did not want to risk re-injuring his"not fully healed" injury that caused him to miss so many games. He thought more recuperation time was the best road.

Backes is not going because he and his wife are expecting their first child. And I'm not sure going to play in the world's (where the US will most likely get beat anyway), will help Backes become more of a winner.

It's just a 2 week tourney so you would think his mom and mother in law could take care of Kelly Backes for just a short time and then he'd be back.
