How will Blues fans remember the Jake Allen era???
Re: News and Games around the NHL
3Is that enough cap space, and you still have to pay a back up goalie.
Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
4Figured this deserved its own thread:
So long Jake. He'll probably do well as a backup to Price.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
5That is certainly an interesting trade for both teams.
Have to think this means the Blues are clearing room for Petro. Especially since they took 0 salary back. That or they are giving Faulk another extension.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
7To me trading Allen and Bozak were the two most obvious moves for the Blues this off-season. Even if they don't get Petro, they'll be able to get that cap space to use one way or another.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
9The Blues never let information slip out. I doubt JR has any real inside info on where negotiations are right now and even if he is right, that can change with one phone call.
The Blues currently have 6.3 million in cap space after this trade.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
10I was about to post the same thing, Dread. Army is always tight lipped about this stuff.
Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
11The Blues might be tight lipped, but reporters can talk to agents too...

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
12On the other side, Montreal now has 15 million tied up in two goalies this coming season.

13Agreed Dave, but agents are the masters of misinformation at times like this.Dave's a mess wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:48 am The Blues might be tight lipped, but reporters can talk to agents too...
Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
14Could be Husso time, but Army's MO has been to have a veteran backup. Sometimes it works (Elliott/Hutton) sometimes it doesn't (Chad Johnson). I know we'd all like to see Husso get some time, but I'd put my money on Army getting a retread on the cheap.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
15If Army goes for the veteran backup....and he probably will, there are a ton of goalies hitting the market this offseason. He will have several to pick from.Dave's a mess wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:50 am

16It's true. "Not even close" could be ominous, or could just be posturing from whoever JR is talking to.Matangama wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:49 amAgreed Dave, but agents are the masters of misinformation at times like this.Dave's a mess wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:48 am The Blues might be tight lipped, but reporters can talk to agents too...
If they don't sign Petro, there's some cap space for a trade that might not be on anyone's radar. With the flat salary cap and low revenue projections for next year, my guess is some teams are going to be unloading high priced players that they might not in a regular year. Maybe Armstrong has one of those deals in the works. It's a fun offseason already.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
17No second or sixth. Two late thirds and fifths. Probably some more pick shuffling between now and October.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
18Kinda yuck.
Edit: I think Hofer may surprise some people and could possibly steal the backup spot.

Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
19The more I think about this trade......getting a 3rd is not a bad return. The Blues need to dump some guys, and other teams know that. Plus you have a flat salary cap, combined with a lot of uncertainty going forward as teams look at next season. Getting a team to take a $4.35 million cap hit for a backup goalie in this environment could not have been easy! Jake has been much, much better for us, but we knew he had to be moved, and there are a ton of goalies available in free agency this summer(fall).
Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
21I think I’ll tell him the Blues are going to sign Brian Elliott as the backup for next season!
Re: Allen Traded to Habs for Picks
22You just gave me PTSD reading those two names.

23It should be Husso time. But I have really high hopes for Fitzpatrick going for. I think that kid is going to be a damn good one.Dave's a mess wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:50 am

24Having not seen ANY of those guys play, I'm not high on Fitzpatrick. I think Hofer is the long term hope. I don't think Fitzpatrick has done much besides that Memorial Cup run. That's admittedly not nothing, but it seems to be more of the exception rather than the rule looking purely at stats.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 12:08 pmIt should be Husso time. 25So I reckon Carey Price didn't figger as a "retread" for this transaction?Dave's a mess wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:50 am
