This tells me the NHL is preparing for a work stoppage for the 2020/21 season. They don't want Seattle to get ready for 2020 and then be delayed a year due to CBA negotiations.
Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
3Whether he's playing well for us or not, I'd still LOVE to see Perron picked up by another expansion team. And then get traded to yet another team he hasn't played for yet. How many teams has one player been on, while only actually signing contracts with one franchise?
Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
4Makes sense as no teams will be playing in 2020.

Arizona??? Is being moved to the Central.

Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
6I thought it was interesting that Bettman said the Coyotes draw better against Central Division teams than Pacific Division teams.
Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
7Arizona is full of transplants like St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, and Minnesota. Older folks or people who like warmer weather. Not that surprising.barcthespark wrote: Tue Dec 04, 2018 11:35 am I thought it was interesting that Bettman said the Coyotes draw better against Central Division teams than Pacific Division teams.

8I expect Arizona will be playing in Houston by then so it won’t be a big deal.

10I agree about the Coyotes moving to Houston. Hopefully, either the Panthers or Hurricanes will move to Quebec City too.

11A lot of rumors about a red and black color scheme floating around....surely they can't be that stupid...can they?

16Yeah the Red/Black thing is disappointing. I'm just generally not a fan of black jerseys, and there are already enough red teams. Green would've provided a nice little change. I'm guessing this rules out the Seattle Emeralds as a potential team name.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
19I think everyone is getting ahead of themselves. Red and black are also common design templates to use, and the 'players in the arena' picture was from back in April. Could it be the future team colors? Possible, but changing the websites and social media pages theme colors ain't a big deal.
However, interesting article here with perspectives on the colors in the models: "Everything from team logo to uniform colors will be driven by the name.
For instance, if called the Seattle Emeralds, it’s unlikely they’d go for a red color uniform. Likewise, a “Firebirds” name might prevent traditional Seattle green and blue uniforms.
That raises an important issue for the NHL Seattle group, which is in a unique position to break clear of this city’s traditional pro sports colors. That tradition, after all, hasn’t exactly produced rafters full of championship banners.
Artists’ renderings of a future, remodeled KeyArena have featured hockey players wearing red and white uniforms, prompting speculation that’s what the new team here will go with.
A 2005 study by Russell A. Hill and Robert A. Barton of the University of Durham in England found Olympic athletes randomly assigned red uniforms for combat sports tended to win more often that those given blue uniforms. The same held true for soccer teams wearing red at the Euro 2004 competition.
Subsequent studies suggest referees favor athletes wearing red. And that teams in red uniforms win more because the color causes elevated blood and testosterone levels among athletes wearing it.
The reigning Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals? Decked out in red.
Throw in the fact that one of the future Seattle team’s owners, Hollywood film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, is a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan, and color red conspiracy theorists could have a field day. Not to mention, Bruckheimer’s the guy who put the fictional “Kraken’’ sea monster into his Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
But what do a make-believe Kraken and the color red have to do with Seattle? Would fans identify with that?
Branding specialist Passikoff says it may not matter. Though teams nowadays almost always pick traditional, region-identifying names, he says his detailed surveys show they account for only a small percentage of the “loyalty” fans show those franchises.
“At some point, every league has a new team they have to carry because they lose a bunch of games,’’ Passikoff said. “It doesn’t matter what the name of the team is. They’ll eventually have to start winning, regardless of what the name is if they want fans to follow.’’
The Golden Knights certainly had a better first season than some of our Seattle-based teams that struggled for years after inception. Two of them – the Seahawks and Mariners – nearly left town before turning things around.
The NHL Seattle group hopes to win a lot sooner, helped by the same expansion draft rules that benefited the Golden Knights. And if they do, the right name and branding would go a long way to helping fill their coffers the way the Vegas franchise did last season."

I know it's a bit of a retread, but I actually like the Seals best from this list. We know they won't be Golden.

21I don't know why but Kraken just seems weird to me as a team name, though I could get used to it.
Honestly I like Eagles or Seals best. Too bad Grunge isn't on the table that was my old created team in the NHL 04 days.

22Really, Metropolitans is the leading candidate? And the Seattle Metropolitans already won a Cup in 1917? So already, we're behind Seattle
I got a soft spot for the Seals. Seattle Seals would be pretty good IMO.

23Man, when I look up the jersey concepts for Seattle, I'm not impressed at all. Just go ahead and call them the Super Sonics and call it a day.
Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
24So if they are called the metropolitans, would they rename the metropolitan division?
Now now, the Canadian Government has apologized for Bryan Adams on SEVERAL occasions!
Re: Seattle expected to begin play in 2021
25Bettman didn't seem too enthralled about the name Metropolitans at the press conference. He said something like "That name was a long time ago and we already have a division with that name." Since the NHL gets a yea or nay on the name, I doubt it will be that.
