According to Strickland.
I'd take him at 6M per year...no doubt.
Toronto willing to retain $2mm of Kessel's Salary
2If we are one of the teams they are willing to do it for, does that increase interest in him? Kessel at $6mm sounds a lot better than Kessel at $8mm.
Re: Toronto willing to retain $2mm of Kessel's Salary
3I'd sure take him......but for what in return? If it's Oshie+, then great. If it's quite a bit more than that, then forget it.
Re: Leafs willing to retain 2M of Kessel's Salary
4His cap hit is 8 mil....this upcoming season he gets 10mil .

Re: Toronto willing to retain $2mm of Kessel's Salary
6I'd be all for it if it was Oshie +. I have no doubt that Oshie would be going the other way, my concern is what would be the +? Ideally, I send Ott along for the ride to even out the salary. Not sure what Toronto is looking for at this point. Maybe we can return Gunnar too!Matangama wrote:I'd sure take him......but for what in return? If it's Oshie+, then great. 7Right, but it would make his cap hit 6M.Turk Sanderson wrote:His cap hit is 8 mil....this upcoming season he gets 10mil .

Re: Leafs willing to retain 2M of Kessel's Salary
8TRUE...but what I was saying, is that he still costs you 8mil this year, 7mil for the next 2yrs, 5mil for the next 2yrsUMSLBlues12 wrote:Right, but it would make his cap hit 6M.Turk Sanderson wrote:His cap hit is 8 mil....this upcoming season he gets 10mil .

Re: Leafs willing to retain 2M of Kessel's Salary
9If the cost is Oshie + Rattie + Vannelli + 2016 2nd I'd do it in a heartbeat if they are still retaining $2M of his cap hit. Takes away 25% of the risk of the last few years of his deal if he slows down and becomes ineffective. That said, their willingness to retain cap hit is likely directly connected to the quality of the prospects coming back to them. Not sure if Rattie, Vannelli and a 2nd is enough to get them to take any salary back.

10Send them Steen instead of Oshie, and the numbers work better.MissouriMook wrote:If the cost is Oshie + Rattie + Vannelli + 2016 2nd I'd do it in a heartbeat if they are still retaining $2M of his cap hit. 11Then we become incredibly weak on the left side.Turk Sanderson wrote:Send them Steen instead of Oshie, and the numbers work better.MissouriMook wrote:If the cost is Oshie + Rattie + Vannelli + 2016 2nd I'd do it in a heartbeat if they are still retaining $2M of his cap hit. Re: Leafs willing to retain 2M of Kessel's Salary
12Maybe the numbers work better, but I still think Steen has more value to the Blues than Oshie does. Oshie is #1 on my list of players to move this offseason.Turk Sanderson wrote:Send them Steen instead of Oshie, and the numbers work better.MissouriMook wrote:If the cost is Oshie + Rattie + Vannelli + 2016 2nd I'd do it in a heartbeat if they are still retaining $2M of his cap hit. 13Steen has a fragile melon...I'd move him ....besides, I want the "old core" gone.Blues14 wrote:Maybe the numbers work better, but I still think Steen has more value to the Blues than Oshie does. Re: Leafs willing to retain 2M of Kessel's Salary
14I don't think it is going to be us, but I think someone is going to make out great when Kessel gets moved. I think away from Toronto on a team with better leadership he is going to be even better.

15I don't think we can top the Penguins offer. We simply can't trade away another 1st.UMSLBlues12 wrote:I don't think it is going to be us, but I think someone is going to make out great when Kessel gets moved. I think away from Toronto on a team with better leadership he is going to be even better.
