Brad Hunt

Thoughts? I've been impressed so far with his puck movement and positioning. His D obviously leaves something to be desired, but I've been impressed overall. I think he'd be a better fit with Parayko than Shatty though.

Good "ice vision," likes to get involved in the O-zone, plays defense like I do ... "You've got him!" That & his small stature are what has - and will - lead to Hunt ending his career as an AHL journeyman. Not such a bad thing to be remembered as, mind you.

I like offensive defensemen, when they're paired with stay-at-home defensemen. Unfortunately this team only has a few forwards that are willing to go where you have to, to score, thus leaving the defense thinking that they have to do more. The Blues defense over commits to offense way too much for my liking. Playing two offensive defenders on the same pairing is a recipe for disaster. Someone has to stay home and guard the house.

I think him and Shattenkirk complement each other well. I really don't want them out there versus anything but the other teams #3 line because their defense is suspect at best, but it's like having 5 forwards on the ice. Pair them with the Tarasenko line as much as possible.

Hunt > Gunnarson.
Just a Russian propaganda account

I agree.

Hunt and Shatty seem to have some chemistry.

Thoughts on 77 Hunt?

NASHVILLE, TENN. • If you listen to the way Blues defenseman Brad Hunt tells it, everyone else is responsible for his success.

Here's a sampling of an interview with the newcomer Tuesday morning, as the Blues prepped for tonight's game against the Nashville Predators.

On impressing the Blues enough to make his third straight appearance tonight: “It's just coming here and taking it like another game, taking it day by day, try not to think about it too much, realize that I'm playing with great players and just making the simple play and not trying to do too much.”

On how he's been able to carry his play in the AHL to the Blues: "I feel like I'm playing with great guys and they're really helping me with my confidence and boosting me up when I make a mistake or make a good play. Everyone is great on the team and the leadership is awesome.”

On his chemistry with defensive partner Kevin Shattenkirk: “It's been awesome, just the little things on the bench he's been helping me out with. He's so easy to play with because he's obviously such a great player. It's made the transition fairly nice.”

He's not good in his own zone. He's small and light, and can be manhandled by bigger forwards (IF and when he is actually where he should be to defend). His defensive awareness and play reading is weak, and so is the team's gap control when he's on the ice. He's a lot less effective on offence on The NHL level than PP specialists like Shattenkirk, and he's a couple levels down from even Kris Russell, and even more below them on defence (which is a weakness for both). He'd be exposed, badly in the long term, if The Blues were to use him regularly on The 3rd defensive shift. Using him on the 2nd would be an utter disaster.

He's an adequate call-up/fill in for 3rd shift and 2nd PP duty for few-game emergencies, and that's probably all we can hope. It's good that he has helped the offence, but, I don't think we would end up with a net positive GF/GA if he were played regularly for long periods.

I think Robb has a good read on him to a degree! He's not that far off and needs to develop a few aspects which I view as the difference from an AHL to NHL transition and situational awareness.
He may/may not stick but it doesn't hurt to root for someone. Its not like you have to hope for him there is potential and as a Blues fan you'd like to see him make it. Some call up's are just flat out "no way"!
I get on PD/STLT Blues GDT for the introspect on the game from others, but that GD place even something somewhat trivial like Hunt gets beaten to a pulp with hate and infighting what a big fat negative joke!

I don't think anyone is saying all of that.
Yes they are. And I started it.
This is how the power play dance got started and look at the damage it has done.
