227A physical no non-sense North American defensemen Quinton Burns to the Blues.

Re: NHL Draft GDT
228Quentin Burns at 74. 6'2 D that skates fairly well and has a high compete level. Not much in the way of puck skills.
Sure.
Sure.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

Pekarchik played a limited-minutes role on his Slovakia pro team in the top division. He was a top player for Slovakia's U18 team, including 10 points in seven games at the U18 Worlds. He is only a few days away from being eligible for the 2024 NHL Draft.
Analysis
Pekarcik is a strong skater who can create tough offensive plays at pace. He's got excellent hands and can beat defenders one-on-one at a strong clip. His playmaking isn't amazing, but it's good enough, especially how he can create on the move or from small areas. Pekarchik's compete is an asset. He gets to the net, wins battles, and doesn't shy from physical play even if I wouldn't call him overly aggressive. He has a lot of traits of a bottom-six wing in the NHL who has a chance to be more if he hits.

Re: NHL Draft GDT
232He fit the exact type they seem to be going after this draft. Very happy with the pick.NHLTIM wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 11:05 amGood call..they drafted himDread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 10:49 am If the Blues want to go back to Slovakia for another high compete get in the dirty areas player, Juraj Pekarcik is the name to watch.

Re: NHL Draft GDT
234Quinton Burns
Background
Burns played a ton of minutes for Kingston this season. He was invited to Canada's U18 this spring but was injured midway through the tournament. He was a second-round pick in his OHL Draft.
Analysis
Burns is a strong-skating defenseman who plays very hard. He's a punishing physical player, and a strong defender who will make a lot of stops versus pros. The debate on Burns will be exactly how much offense he has. If you see good enough sense he could play, but I haven't observed much puck play or vision to be convinced especially as an average sized player.

Re: NHL Draft GDT
236Could format like shit, but Per Elite Prospects:
He’s an engager first and foremost, a player who almost prefers letting opponents get the first touch on the puck just so that
he can crush them on the boards in the second that follows. Although his frame won’t be as large of an advantage at the
professional level as in the OHL, Burns’s physical skills project well to the NHL and his skating ability, too. His strength and balance
will enable him to box out opponents from the front of the net and his mobility to neutralize passing lanes and deny space.
Projecting his play with the puck was a bit harder for our staff, however.
“Burns has all of the advanced transition ideas,” Elite Prospects Director of North American scouting Mitch Brown wrote in a
February report. “He spins off checks, attacks the inside, looks cross-ice for options, and even manipulates incoming pressure. He
slips pucks through forecheckers, then sprints to join the rush, but most of his passes miss.”
Right now, the most realistic projection for Burns is a bottom-pairing role, but he doesn’t need much skill development to elevate
his upside. Small agility and handling improvements would help him connect on many more of his plays and give him a much
better chance of becoming a top-four defenceman.

Re: NHL Draft GDT
237So sounds like the Blues are taking safe bets to make the league with their forwards, and D first defensemen. Seems logical. Hope these guys pan out.
My bigger question is now that the Blues have restocked the coffers, do some of the recent forward draft picks get moved out? Neighbours and Bolduc's value has probably dropped a little internally recently. Snuggerud is probably safe after his big year at Minnesota.
