As soon as the rumors popped up that McClellan was close to signing with the Oilers, I thought immediately that means Babcock is probably staying in Detroit. Dreger has an interview with him over on TSN

Personally, I don't think there is any chance that Babcock signs in St. Louis but there is absolutely no way he will while Hitchcock is still officially the coach.

That's what it sounds like....makes sense; $$$, still close to Detroit where family is and wants to stay per reports, etc.

It also presents a challenge, and there are no stepping on toes like could be perceived if working for DA and replacing buddy Hitch.

That's a LOT of $$$$$$$$ for a coach, and glad we didn't spend that. Much better use on the ice than on the bench IMO.

That is a ridiculous amount of money. It's more than anyone in MLB, more than most of the NBA, and pretty high for a NFL salary, too.

That's a shit ton of money for a coach. Glad the Blues didn't throw that much dough at him. Wouldn't have minded Babcock here at all but not at that silly price. 8 years 50 million?! Wow.

Toronto now spending over 6M per year on a coach and over 5M per year on a player that will never touch the ice again.

Apparently the Leafs were ready to ink Guy Boucher this morning. They were having a meeting with him and a Leafs executive left the meeting and worked out a deal with Babcock!
It's a cruel world out there. Tim Murray is livid too....
