Massive corrections across the board. While there were two minutes mid-2nd and about 7 min at the beginning of the third I didn’t love, the rest of the game was exactly the way the blues needed to play to win. And it looks like everyone bought in. A nigh-perfect game from the blue crew. Even if they had lost, I would have been proud of them for playing a proper game. The win was beautiful, though. Just wish 90 had gotten one.

Binnington’s play in game 1 wasn’t a fluke. He was a monster in the crease. Where was this guy all season? Actually, I don’t care. He has demonstrated he is capable of finding another gear in the playoffs, which is all that matters.

Thomas needs to get his head out of his ass. I can’t believe we’re still talking about this, but hey dude - it’s ok to shoot the puck yourself once in a while.

That call on Perron in the third was fucking ludicrous. He touched the guy with his stick and gets called for hooking. That was a make-up call, and the only one they got. Other than that, and whatever the fuck Compher was doing to Leddy in the first period along the boards in the offensive zone not being called (it looked like attempted rape, at the very least a football tackle), I was pretty happy with the officiating. There were some correct non-calls, even when the entire arena was screaming they sucked. I was concerned going into this series about penalties, given the speed of the Avs, but for the most part, the refs are letting them play.

Second-most importantly (after winning), the Blues, as a team, were hitting last night. They were double-teaming the puck carrier to win battles along the boards. There were even some Malachi Crunches delivered. It was a beautiful thing.

Torpochenko is really great to watch. Very smart kid. I agree with Burke, he’s going to be a great power forward in this league. What a find. Faulk also had a great game. Leddy too. Even 55 unleashed a few slappers.

Up front, other than Thomas looking lost a few times (and still not doing great on the dot - just my eye test, didn’t look up stats), everyone had a solid game and great effort. I didn’t see much to complain about. It was nice seeing the Avs get somewhat frustrated and start trying to force things. At their speed, that frequently resulted in turnovers and as we saw, there will be a price to pay for those eventually.

If the Blues keep playing this way, we will absolutely win this series.

Game 3 is going to be interesting. The Blues wisely made corrections that greatly slowed down the Avs transition game, but they'll likely have some sort of counter, or at least a game plan for better in-zone play. ROR had his streak broken, but was still probably the Blues most dangerous offensive player. He had a few grade A chances from the slot that Kuemper just made the save on. If he keeps it up he'll be on a new streak soon. Finally, and this probably won't be a popular opinion, but I didn't have a problem with the officiating. The call on Perron was correct. He got him with a hook around the blueline. It wasn't an egregious pull, but he slowed him down with a hook to the waist as an attempt to stop a 2 on 1. Given the amount of "Ref you suck" chants from the crowd, I don't feel like the Blues got the worse of it anyway.

Most importantly, after getting dominated in terms of high danger scoring chances at 5 on 5 in game 1, the Blues managed to win that battle 9-3 last night. With Binner playing the way he is right now, no team is going to overcome a deficit like that. Let's keep it going on Saturday.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

I agree, I thought Thomas fucked up a couple plays. On one he went wide and just took himself out of the play. Wasn't one of his better games - ha
Nice to see Kyrou re-emerging though. And yes, if Binner plays like this all series, I can't see how the Blues don't beat the Avs. Would be a total fail if they lose this series with great goaltending.

I would have been throwing chairs off the balcony if they scored off of that bogus hooking call. That was an utter shit call and could have turned the tide of the game. Unlike a lot of people I wasn't totally upset with the Schenn call this other night, but this call was strictly the refs trying to massage the outcome of a series. I hate it and it's the one thing I hate most about the NHL.

Toropchenko is a fucking monster. I don't know what else to say about the kid. He's just going to be an absolute beast of a player.

Like you, I've been really disappointed with the play of Thomas over the whole playoffs. Both him and Parayko have looked very tentative.

They know they can go toe to toe with Colorado now. It should be an excellent series from here on in. I hope.

Oh yeah. About Binnington. I really think he doesn't give two shits about the regular season and was totally fine letting Husso handle the workload. I don't know what else it could be.
