I hadn't thought about this. It would be a blast to watch those two teams go at it. I believe it was the 2011-2012 season.
Similar story, too, IIRC. Floundering early, fire coach, make playoffs, catch fire, win Cup.
That's pretty accurate. They hired one of those Sutter boys. But there were not floundering anything like the Blues were.

The Kings were the 8 seed in the west (Back when it was the three division winners at top three seeds and then everyone else by points). Won round one in 5 games, swept the Blues in the second, five games in round three and beat NJ in six.
2018-2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues. And I was alive to see it happen!

You need a solid game plan, great execution, and a collection of individuals willing to sacrifice their individual needs for the great good of the team. It's why McDavid + Draisaitl + 21 other guys don't stand a chance against a team that is built like (and plays like) the Blues even though they would go into a series with inarguably the two most talented players in the matchup. I hated the old Brian Sutter line that "hard work is a skill" because it isn't, but that doesn't mean that hard work can't beat skill.
yeah that's what i was going to say mook. it really depends on how you're defining "superior" and "team". see: lake placid, 1980.

Hahaha, that was enjoyable. I don't care if they were the best team or not, all I care about is that I got to see them all lift that big shiny trophy. Hard to believe it was 37 years ago*.

This was the night the Blues basically ended the Sharks organization. Knocked them right into one of the worst teams in the league. Jammed the knife in the eye
Just a Russian propaganda account

If I were a Sharks fan I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive Doug Wilson for not getting that team a competent goalie at some point. If Jones had been even league average over that 2 year period they probably at least play for a Cup. But since I'm not a Sharks fan they can go right to hell where they belong.

Well, they did play for a Cup in 2016 with Jones in net.

It should have been us though but we didn't have the killer instinct against the Hawks and Stars.

Seeing these re-pop up and watching highlights...seems like Petro was on the ice for almost every big goal that series. He might not be worth what he's going to get paid, but we're going to miss him if he leaves
No matter what happens in the future he has had a hell of a career with the Blues. Scoring the game winner in Game 7 and being the first player to touch the Cup while wearing the Blue Note are nice feathers in his cap.
