Re: St. Louis Blues 2018-2019 Stanley Cup Champions!!!!!!!!!!
351The first LA Cup winning team vs. the Blues Cup winning team would be amazing to watch.
I hadn't thought about this. It would be a blast to watch those two teams go at it. I believe it was the 2011-2012 season.BluesSK wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 7:34 pm The first LA Cup winning team vs. the Blues Cup winning team would be amazing to watch.
Similar story, too, IIRC. Floundering early, fire coach, make playoffs, catch fire, win Cup.stlblues1226 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 8:47 pmI hadn't thought about this. Man, 2 unstoppable forces collide. 7 game series for sure with Berube and Sutter squaring off as well.BluesSK wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 7:34 pm The first LA Cup winning team vs. the Blues Cup winning team would be amazing to watch.
That's pretty accurate. They hired one of those Sutter boys. But there were not floundering anything like the Blues were.MissouriMook wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 9:42 pmSimilar story, too, IIRC. yeah that's what i was going to say mook. it really depends on how you're defining "superior" and "team". see: lake placid, 1980.MissouriMook wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 5:31 pm Something that seems to be lost on the fanbases of teams built around 2-3 superstars is that the team that wins it all isn't usually the one with the greatest collection of individual talent, it is the one that plays the best as a team. You need a solid game plan, great execution, and a collection of individuals willing to sacrifice their individual needs for the great good of the team. It's why McDavid + Draisaitl + 21 other guys don't stand a chance against a team that is built like (and plays like) the Blues even though they would go into a series with inarguably the two most talented players in the matchup. I hated the old Brian Sutter line that "hard work is a skill" because it isn't, but that doesn't mean that hard work can't beat skill.
Hahaha, that was enjoyable. I don't care if they were the best team or not, all I care about is that I got to see them all lift that big shiny trophy. Hard to believe it was 37 years ago*.CaptSMRT wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 4:47 pm Everything this fool is saying proves my point. I will die on this hill.

This was the night the Blues basically ended the Sharks organization. Knocked them right into one of the worst teams in the league. Petro knocking out Pavelski, Schwartz hatrick, Tarasenko penalty shot, the fourth line with the first goal, and a Binnington shutout.
If I were a Sharks fan I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive Doug Wilson for not getting that team a competent goalie at some point. If Jones had been even league average over that 2 year period they probably at least play for a Cup. But since I'm not a Sharks fan they can go right to hell where they belong.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 9:27 amThis was the night the Blues basically ended the Sharks organization. Well, they did play for a Cup in 2016 with Jones in net.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 10:36 amIf I were a Sharks fan I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive Doug Wilson for not getting that team a competent goalie at some point. It should have been us though but we didn't have the killer instinct against the Hawks and Stars.
Seeing these re-pop up and watching highlights...seems like Petro was on the ice for almost every big goal that series. He might not be worth what he's going to get paid, but we're going to miss him if he leaves
No matter what happens in the future he has had a hell of a career with the Blues. Scoring the game winner in Game 7 and being the first player to touch the Cup while wearing the Blue Note are nice feathers in his cap.UMSLBlues12 wrote: Fri May 29, 2020 10:08 amSeeing these re-pop up and watching highlights...seems like Petro was on the ice for almost every big goal that series.
