Nice tweaks!
Hopefully they don't mind watching the game at the taproom which I usually go to on Mondays.

This is beautiful. We are not worthy of your artistic endeavors.

Now let's get that rare Game 2 win!!!!!

wouldnt that be something. earning a shutout in game 4 would be nice too, instead of getting shutout :/

I am hooking up the wires to my vest as I play this. The vault security doesn't stand a chance!

Slocal GDT.
Please call PDB and let him know this game is over, he can rest some players.

You're too kind. But really, it's Goose on the forecheck, like here for example:

Just win

that fallon segment is usually pretty cringeworthy but sometimes kinda funny
awesome gdt as usual slo

Make it easier on yourselves and just win this game.

I actually think they don't split the home games this time. 2-0 heading into St. Louis!!

Expecting nyquist and kane to come big this game

EK65 is due for scoring a goal ... and more.
Gonna say that every freaking game.

We need to match Bostons pace and hopefully play as few physically demanding games as possible.
Lets go Team Teal!

I didn't know it at the time, being a child but my love of Cinnamon started with this show.

JUST WIN THE GAME!
As we all have already said this already.
Also not that I mind but the Saturday broadcast was very Shark heavy at times. Guess when you actually do good things and win, the fools in the booth can't praise the blues too much.

Sharks win: blues just didn't show up and it was lucky goals, also the refs are trash and want San Jose to win, also bettman wants sharks Boston
Blues win: Ha! See the blues showed up and sharks didn't get any lucky goals

Well the Blues are the original Sharks, so they also have that going against them.

He was my Sharks App goal guess every game for almost 2 months to start the season. Been there.

Sharks win 4-0. All 4 goals scored on a 5min PP.

Page number: 2

Love it!

Hopefully the ice crew left a map of the good ice spots for the boys, just like they did for em in game 1. Obviously helped them navigate while the Blues couldn't find any good ice

Sharks lose 6-3.

Overdue, his last goal was 12/29. His all-star goals was 66% of his regular season goals. So he is way overdue.

Protect home ice, just win the damn game and come out fast

Just go score ****ing 3 goals right now, you ****ing *****. -EK and JT, probably.

So important to get this 2-0.. this is where sharks have looked comfortable/complacent because they don't seem worried with a 1-0 series lead.. time for a new attitude, stl will come out hard jones is going to have to make a couple big early saves and then the boys go to work. I want 2 free shots in stl to steal a game and be 3-1 coming home

Picked up my daughter from school by the Tank. Stopped at Whole Foods and then on our way back to 87 there was a Goose by the entrance to the SAP Center parking lot on Julian.

Nyquist hat trick incoming.

I really want them to put their foot on the blues throat tonight but I know they wont.
Blues take game 2 because it seems to be a pattern lol

I hope NBC spends at least two intermissions explaining what MacKinnon is up to today, what food his dog ate yesterday, and what grateful peasants he plans to grace with his presence tomorrow.

Or what college he went to and what college team he played on!

He played for Halifax in the qmjhl.

Pierre?

Rinse and repeat the performance from game 1 throughout this series! Let's goooooooooooo!

Statistically, Binnington is the 2nd worst goalie left.

Play smart, responsible hockey and take a commanding lead. Don't see the Blues winning 4 of 5 against the Sharks.

I was going to make a big reveal out of pulling off my perfect latex mask to show what's underneath this identity of internet hockey forum moderator, but.... yes.

Sharks 4-1
Pavs, Couture, Goodrow, Meier
Thomas

Loving these early start times

Let's go boys just win

Can we just win a game 2 this year.

I felt good about game 1, I feel even better tonite. This time, Hertl's line gets 3 goals.

Page number: 3

Let's go Sharks! Left work early and braved the South Bay traffic to be here! I want another complete game from the boys

Let's friggin go

It makes it more entertaining to imagine Pierre loves hockey so much he's actively posting on HF while doing NBC broadcasts.

Do goalies wear mics? I noticed the electrical stuff on Bennington and I've never seen that before. I thought it was like hand signals to call the goalie over for the extra skater.

Let's go boys!!! You know they're coming out hard

BOCH!! The most he smiled all season

BOCH!!!!!!

First things first: amazing GDT
Last (minute) SNOG
Sharks 4
Blues 3
Hertlik, EK65(!), Labanc and Donkey

I hate the audio adjustments NBC makes

Makes the arena sound silent.

If the Sharks want to win the cup they need to start getting some consistency going starting with this game. No up and downs because you aren't going to beat a team like Boston unless your game is sharp.

Lame...

Kind of felt like that was going to happen. I don't understand why they can't start a game

Weird bounce and perfect shot.

We've lost every game the other team scored first

****

Why the **** did they give Schwartz so much room?

That was a just a great shot.

Hey Timo, maybe try to play some defense when a guy is wide open in the slot

Sharks look casual again

Game 7 vs. Vegas

Timo just sat there an watched him as he covered absolutely no one.

Good follow up shift.

That doesn't count

And random bounce

Page number: 4

Duh how could I forget

Wonderful...

Womp womp

Game 1 Vs. Colorado

Sharks have lost every game 2 of the playoffs so far. Was REALLY hoping to buck that trend tonight. Come on Sharks.

Game 1 vs. Colorado?

Not the start we wanted... ugh

It's a pattern with this ****ing team, no show game 2

Someone tell the boys this is a game 5 or 7 and not a game 2, maybe they'll actually start playing

Week call

Milbury doesn't like it, meaning Blues will score.

Yep but it was a trip. Just unfortunate.

Exciting stuff.

Good kill.

Blues pp looks like ours

Hopefully those short handed opportunities woke the boys up.

Alright, reset. Game starts now.

i wonder if kane is ever going to make a play in his life again

Melker and goody on a 2v1...lol

Jones doesn't seem to be moving well. Has been way out of position a few times. I'm a bit concerned he is cooling off.

We attacked better than they did on that power play

Only problem is that they are starting down 1-0.

Garbage

In January he scores in that situation.

Page number: 5

He's just keeping the other EK company I'm the "can't score goals" club.

Jonesy is scaring me right now it doesn't seem to be following the puck well

Keystone cops in d zone right now

5 on 4 goal. Please.

Spott Special inc

They aren't missing trips so far tonight.

Huge save by Jones. Let's not leave the front of the net wide open... and score on this PP

Pretty sure we lost that one too. And then the league stepped in and ruined hockey forever.

We better hope they take another penalty, cause we know we ain't scoring 5 on 4 lol

Blues have 3 looks at empty nets so far tonight, pure luck they haven't been able to finish them.

U right. U right.

Entries are way too slow

Sloppy.

Seriously right now

**** this pp like seriously

The powerplay is so ****ing bad. Has anyone noticed?

Fire Spott!

Were making the ****ty Blues PP look like they had Wayne Gretzkys

Spott should have been fired mid season. Terrible coaching

Don't worry y'all I leave for my hockey game in 30 minutes. The sharks always do well when I don't watch

Dumped it in and still couldn't take the zone. How is it possible to be that bad at zone entries?

They will never win a game 2 again

Hopefully:

Geeze, wide open net Vlasic

This is the worst PP I've seen in some time

Page number: 6

Damn it why'd it have to be Vlasic

Sharks starting to play better.

Love the 4th line with Donskoi but for the love of god put pucks on net. 4th line dangle privileges need to be revoked.

I heard traffic is bad so you might want to give yourself extra time

We'll be alright if we keep up this play, damn it Vlasic you have to ****ing bury that

So sloppy tonight
I mean the game in general not just the sharks

The Blues make so many errors that the Sharks don't capitalize on.

Vlasic needs to at least put that on net

Man Vlasic Orr needs to bury that. Bennington had no chance if he just puts it anywhere near the top of the net

Looked like it tipped off goalies glove, no?

Maybe he should have kept that other stick instead of switching back to his.

How did Karlsson ever score 20 goals? I get his play making ability but I haven't seen anything resembling a good shot this season.

Pierre says we're used to electric starts, he means for the opponents, right?

Jesus dropping a lot of pucks, they need a betternet front right now

Need to rattle Binnington. Get in his face and his head. Keep piling on shots!

Like those big juicy Binnington rebounds tonight.

Passes not connecting but they look mostly okay.

Karlsson is a beast. and I don't mean Erik.

Geeze, we gotta bury one of these chances

Wow so many great chances!! Got to get one through.

We just looks so much better than the blues when they play their game

Great effort on the backcheck there from Meier

Kane looks to be skating better

Donskoi needs to shoot more and pass less

Weeeeeeeak

theres the 7 milly man

Page number: 7

Thats a weak ****ing call

Every pass is just a little off. It feels like they are close to cashing in.

Come on Kane...

Stupid penalty by Kane there. Kills all that momentum we have been building.

Melker is playing with a lot of confidence.
That was an incredibly weak call on Kane.

Pretty weak call

All the pressure putting it on them then Kane takes a stupid penalty

Blues are definitely controlling between the hash marks better tonight

Time to sit Kane for Haley.

Switch Donskoi and Kane

Play like they did the middle 10 minutes of that period and they'll be alright.

I didn't saw that well but suspicious that they didn't show any replays.

Ref Jose needs to get the memo. What is this 2 penalties on the sharks?

They owe us a call for that bull****

I actually want to see the burns hit behind bthe net because it looked odd

I was JUST going to compliment Kane for finally looking half decent...

Trips are always gonna seem ticky tack. But it gave us a clear advantage so I'm not surprised

They just need to bury one of these chances before they start getting frustrated and play different. Dont want to see one of the game where we dominate possession and shots but never score.
Weak ass call on Kane btw

That was closer to a dive than a trip

Wow that blue's right skate went out when his left skate got hit lmao he's gotta figure that out for next time or he might not get the call again

Ref Jose at it again.

Lol we go from dealing with Theodore and Schmidt to Barrie and Makar to freaking Vince Dunn on the blues qb'ing a pp.

He fell the wrong way for where the stick was.

kane skates well most nights but who cares we pay him goal scorer money

Shin got tapped and he went sliding into 1st base.

Great PK!!

Page number: 8

I think both teams are going to start declining penalties.

Good kills so far

Both teams putting on a show if your into dumpster fire PPs

Make up your minds dudes. Does Kane suck or was it a weak call

Yes.

That was.nice

He sucks at getting away with what would be a weak call.

Were getting chances, just need to bury them

Start hitting the net please

Too much from the outside though.

Preferably the back of it.

Frustrating period, but I think we win if we score the next goal.

If Burns puts that a little higher above the blocker, its a goal for sure. So close

Couple of bad minutes ruined an otherwise good period. If the Sharks play like this the rest of the way, they win this game.

Karlsson has been our best player so far tonight, by far
And not the one you would expect

We'll be good if they play like this the remainder of the game, I totally don't expect anything from the pp as usual

Only a team heavily favored by the refs could dominate the puck and shot attempts but get doubled up on penalties.

Just need to break the seal

I liked the period. Generated some good chances and zone time, just need to convert. Would've liked someone to collapse to Schwarz more quickly, but that puck bounced right to him in the slot.

The good news is if they played the first 5 mins like that against VGK this game would already be 4-0.
Sharks came on there the second half of that period and looked pretty good. Bury a chance and keep pushing!

Thought that was a good period. Gonna be one of those games where we miss empty nets and get shut out

I like what we are doing. But it feels very...get a bunch of decent chances but blues are packing bodies back there so we lose 2-1

I would've preferred if they tied it up but if we can keep up the pressure, they'll probably get something past Binnington.

Don't know if I've ever felt this good down 1-0 in a game this season.

I feel good about the way we played, and I expect to continue to outplay them. But this just reeks of one of those games where we fail to bury early opportunities, dominate possession all game, but look up at the scoreboard with 5 mins left and were somehow down 2-0. I think it's really important to score the next goal. If we go down 2 I'm afraid the boys start pressing.

Page number: 9

Play great, give up a second unlucky goal off a shin or something, lose 3-1

They gotta keep grinding and I think they'll put a few past Binnington. A few super close calls there, just gotta bury one and I think the second goal will follow quickly.

Okay period. Kane and Sorensen need to stop their pre-game drinking.

Yup. When down 1 I dont think its smart to push crazy hard when there are two periods left. Play like its 0 0

Normally I'd agree with you but St Louis was the Sharks before the Sharks were the Sharks. If anyone could find a way to lose a lead in a critical playoff game it's the Blues.

This is totally the sharks way, will not be surprised 1 bit by this outcome

I don't think St. Louis has been defending well enough to shut us out if we can control possession to this degree. The outcome I'm more worried about is one where we press and allow a few odd-man rushes and breakaways and lose 5-3 or something like that.

Donskoi has shown serious jump. I'd like to see him moved up for one of these two if we dont get an early 2nd period goal.

Missed the first period, obviously I see the score. What's the 30 second synopsis as to how we got to this point?

Bad defense, bad bounce, great shot.
Then lots of missed shots and pressure.

Thanks Naki

Shut up Pierre!

Holy **** the main boards thread is cancer. I'm just gonna hang out here.

IF they start clicking on passes and actually get shots on net it might not be a trap.

Wait, what was wrong with Kane? He looked great that period. Thought sorenson played with a ton of jump too. This blind hate of Kane and Sorenson by this board is getting down right ridiculous.

Another fat rebound... They need to get to those

StL only had 1 SOG the final 12 mins of the 1st period... wow!

Karlsson gets his shot blocked way too often

Come on Kevin...

Elevate the ****ing puck labanc!! Dude had the whole top

Damn Sorensen was there

8 points in 15 games, -3. 45 PIM.
Edit: for a guy getting 2nd line minutes and 20+min/night, I'd expect better.

It was a dive plain and simple. They know the refs have their eye on Kane so dudes dive. That was either a **** call or a call for playing hockey while black which Kane led the league in this season.

Blues will probably score on their next shot, cus that's Hockey.

Page number: 10

He hesitates too much.

Bancer had more to shoot at than I thought

I think I gave you that stat... And? I like how you left out "while clearly playing injured".

I heard a Mackinnon comment!

They mentioned the great one

Nathan MacKinnon mentioned by Pierre. Everyone drink!

Yeah this ones over

You guys called it

****

There's the Sharks we know.

One of these games...

Le sigh

Just one of those games.

4-0 final... calling it now.

****ing team, dominate all game and down 2-0

Classic Sharks. Dominate 15 minutes, Blues get a shot and score.

Jones has to stop that.

Game 2 Blues

I feel like Jones saw that one.

Ultimate Sharks hockey, no shots against in 15 minutes and let in a softie on a nothing shot. Love it

Well if this isn't a typical sharks game I don't know what is

Just another typical Game 2.

Screened and then deflected, not sure how Jones stops that one

Damn, well very Sharks of them to heavily outplay a team and be down 2-0 haha

soft call

Page number: 11

And here we go...

Ref Louis

That is ****ing terrible call.

Lmao, that is a HORRIBLE call

What a bs call

This is exactly what I was scared of. Terrible terrible call there though

Edmundson initiated contact there

Wow awful call.

There's the Ref's we know.

No finish tonight.
Lmaooooo that is an insane call wow

Frustrating to dominate a team and see this.

Horrible call refs

That was ****in horrible

That is a horrendous call, even for NHL standards

lol ok

Wow

Lmfao that penalty

who else?

Goodrow out there is on DeBoer.

Couture!!!

Let's goooooo

Clutchure!

Xoooooooter

That was beyond soft.
Coooooooooooooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

**** you refs!!

Page number: 12

Cooch !

JUICY!!!!

COOTER!! **** you refs!!

This definitely feels like one of these games. This was so weak. Even our Finnish play by play guy who is definitely unbiased thinks this is so bad call.
And LOGAN!!!

Another dive.

**** you Refs

Ref Jose lmao
also COUTURE WOOO

Lol that penalty is bull****

Suck it, McCauley!

Yeah!! **** right off refs!

Nice

COOCH with the eff you refs shorty

nice now watch them say its GI

My favorite thing about soccer is that occasionally a ref will get their head cut off and stuck on a pike

Logan is sick of this sh** haha

What a soft call

Need a big goal?

I don't believe in karma, but that Cooch goal is making me reconsider

Gotta finish this kill

Couture is a God

Such a bad ass mother****er.

Refs knew couture was gonna score a short handed goal if they called that ticky tac interference
Lol @ refs fixing ANOTHER game for the Sharks

That was a big goal

Jones is not comfortable

Page number: 13

O MYYYYYY

OMG COUTURE!!!

Cooooooooooooooooooooooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

****ing stud

Couture again!!!

Need another big goal?!?!?!!?

Couture is amazing.

Couture the cold-blooded MADMAN

Cooch = god

COOTER!!!! Omfg!!

Logan is a ****ing assassin right now

LOGAN AGAIN!!!

The legend!!!

Coooch OMG you are GOD

COOCH THE GODDDDDDDDD

COOCH the magnificent bastard

I was thinking the same thing last game. He's over committed to a lot of shots and Cooch again what a beast

I love this man

Couture you can't do them this nasty got damn

TIE GAME!!!!!!!!

What the hell are we seeing

Cooter playing with the ***** LMFAO!!!

OMFG Conn Smythe HERE HE COMES

Logan most original gangster

So I just had to go and put on my Couture jersey

Page number: 14

looooool couture at 47 playoff goals for the decade. 3 more to match ovi.

He's been saving himself for the playoffs!!

He might be worth 10 million if he keeps this up...

Dont piss couture off

Muahaha.
Doubters.

During the season: how the heck do we get rid of cooches contract
Post season: oh, that's why we pay him. Heck, give that man a damn raise.

Couture is my hero

Keep attacking!!! This team is no way better than us!

Had a minor panic attack I missed a blues goal for a second

we even missed a year during that slump, making that number that much more impressive.

If Logan played like this all year, he would be top 5 in the league.

Puck don't lie!

Even without the playoffs I don't know how someone could want to get rid of him. He is a guaranteed 25-30 goals and 70 points while playing great two way hockey and being clutch. Dude is a legend.

if he played like this all year, he'd have no gas left for the playoffs.

If he played like this all year, I feel like he'd be all spent by the playoffs. I appreciate a conservationist lol

Sharks gotta watch out now, next penalty is against us.

Again.

yo somebody get that mohawk baby some headphones.

sounds REALLY loud there

Tough to blame him for either goal though. Binnington's goals were easily worse.

Weird thing happened to me. Right before the face off preluding the Blues 2nd goal I was thinking "Feels like the Blues will score of a harmless looking point shot and that will be that". And it happened exactly like I imagined. And we all have seen that story too many times. I expected the Sharks to look flat and not get more than 1 goal the rest of the way. turns it will have a different ending tonight.

Kane may not be scoring, but he is skating hard every shift, and I'm appreciating that.

he could've fought through the screen a little harder on that 2nd one but it did get tipped right before it got to him.

Couture owns Binnington. The body language prior to that second goal from both of them tells you everything you need to know.

Page number: 15

Blues are like allergic to the puck lol

What just happened to Thornton?

They can get away with so much interference it isn't even funny anymore

Looked like he got ran while trying to make a change

He forgot he was almost 40?

His forechecking has been great this period

I think a high stick what the refs didn't see.

He got elbowed

Tough spot right now. I want them to take the lead before the 3rd for obvious reasons then realize how they play with a lead most times. lol

I turned the game off to watch baseball during the intermission. It's not going back on now.

Sure, he didn't play it perfectly. But definitely not a goal that is on him.

Craig do you think McKinnon would've scored those 2 goals as well

Anyone see the guy behind Jones in the neon red Marty mcfly puffy jacket and think it's a goal light?

The look that says "your 5 hole is mine *****!"

"Break down OUR forecheck? How about you go **** yourself"
That's what he wanted to say

Braun is playing zero iq D

The thing is they don't try to avoid the Sharks players so it's not a penalty

I hate that Canada Dry commercial

Wasn't trying to, he's just not.moving as well

How isn't that interference....he never had the puck

Thank you Jones!

JONES!

Looks like we aren't getting another call.

Whenever I think of Goose I think of my favorite rivalry the Detroit v SJ . Man those where the days watching on Versus with Randy and Drew. That was such a healthy respect for both teams

Jooooooooones

Page number: 16

Refs missing a good game.

I hate Canada Dry because they only make blackberry ginger ale for a few months each year. And then they replace it with crap like cranberry or blood orange.

Funny how non calls lead to huge chances

Wat the ****

Ridiculous that the Bkues didn't get called for interference/holding. EK65 got tackled

Not a smart step-up by Burns there.

Ref Jose in full effect here

Jones is on tonight.

Gus picking up all the loose pucks like the only guy on the ice with a motor, I liked it.

There is a Blues player that looks like Theon Greyjoy - ha

I've only watched about 5-7 minutes of each period so far because I'm also watching game 7 of the WHL Final. In that time I have seen 0 goals.
Clearly the Sharks only score when I'm not looking. In which case you're welcome for 13-15 minutes of potential scoring chances each period.

It's tarasenko

Jones is controlling rebounds like a god.

and on the other hand, the Blues haven't score when I've been watching, so you're also welcome for 3-5 minutes of shutting down St. Louis.

So, to clarify: a soft pick route where the defender initiates contact = interference. Leveling/tackling a player without the puck = good hockey play. Got it.

Awful. Jones should have played that dump in.

I don't like our 3rd line, it's getting owned

How the **** does Bortuzzo score on us

Ouch

**** off...

Thornton just got humiliated by Robert Bortuzzo. Nice.

Thornton is getting killed

Thornton has been awful since he came back from his suspension.

lmao. Give up a goal to that plug.

Thornton needs to stop being so soft defensively.

Page number: 17

We better win a cup this year cause I can't watch another Jumbo post season

Thornton looks slooow

Nice D Jumbo...

Time for hertl to wake up

Cool

Braun sucks.

Sigh...

What happened. We look lazy all of a sudden.

Thornton is awful

Ice is tilted right now

Sad too because the Blues arent moving very fast. Jumbo is just toast

NBC announcers more excited about that goal than both Couture goals

Thornton should get off the ice if they're in the defensive zone...

Well at least #2goalsorless is safe

Jumbo in struggle city

Braun sucks. And Thornton just can't be the only F1 forechecker for the first 20 seconds of the shift. That's a really bad strategy for that line. That bad defense happens because he was gassed unnecessarily.
What, is Sorensen 60 years old or something? Have him F1 dammit.

This team kills me I swear lol

When does Ref Jose start?

Agreed- Why the SJ hate

Haley in for Thornton

Healthy scratch.

looking pretty bad right now.

Delay of game is automatic but running a dude over when he doesn't have the puck is discretionary lol

Is that really the rule?

SN is pumping the Blues' tires too. I think it's mostly narrative. The Sharks steamrolled game 1, so they're rooting for the underdogs consciously or not

I'm not watching but from reading this last page the blues are killing us

Page number: 18

The story of his career every playoffs.

Of course it is... of course.

Dominate the game and still losing. Boys killing themselves tonight...

Ref jose

These guys find ways to lose games

Tierney would be great on the 3rd line right now, Thornton skating like he's 67

First time hearing that rule, but I guess it kinda makes sense?

Haley in for Meier.

Lol another PK.

Ref Jose out here getting all the breaks

After all the bs we take an automatic penalty

I feel like Melker on that line would even be better. Thornton just having an awful playoff season.

So ref Jose is dead right?
These last 3 calls have been imaginary. Not even a real call in pre-season.

Why would refs call that penalty when nhl is rigging games for the Sharks?
Makes no sense

I wonder how Sorenson is doing wherever he is.

Getting scored on by ****ing Dunn and bortuzzo is unacceptable, this team is a ****ing joke every game 2

This is why putting the whistle away for obvious penalties is bull****. They don't call anything against the blues for 25+ minutes then we get an automatic one...so dumb

Sharks hockey!
Someone other than Cooter needs to find the net....

Such a shame that Couture being clutch as **** is about to go to waste because Joe Thornton is a 4th liner now

That's the rule but it took them so long to figure it out I'm wondering which of them actually saw it go over the corner of the glass by a few inches instead of right into the bench where the evidence landed.

You're being generous with Jumbo.

How is it delay of game if it landed on the bench?
The path of the puck matters now?

I'm sure it's already been said, but our third line needs to step the **** up, or get broken up. Labanc is the only one with a pulse on that line in the last few weeks.

Should I go to sleep and get 1.5h sleep before I go to work or should I watch the rest of the game? I dunno. I would like to be well slept because I have 11 hour workday tomorrow.

Time to bench Jumbo. Move Donskoi up, move Pavs down to center the 3rd line.

Page number: 19

Sorenson looks very injured and invisible. I know that Joe demands he's glued to him, but Donskoi would look far better there and help Joe defensively.

Brb switching campaign to #winitforcooch

Blues are gunna shut it down after their PP goal. Also, Tin Man is done.

Don't let anybody forget that in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Sharks out-scored Pittsburgh at 5-on-5 when Thornton wasn't on the ice.

I saw two clear penalties on the push by the sharks and they just ****ing let them go.

Getting walked by Bortuzzo. Jesus Christ

Who cares what Joe demands right now, he's not even producing points right now and he's giving them up too. Sorensen belongs on the 4th right now and Donskoi needs to move up

Anyone else on Comcrap getting pixelation? It's driving me crazy

Jumbo looked so bad on that goal. He hasnt looked good at all for awhile now...

Well if we kill this off we just need to win the period with 2 goals

Like March

Time to make an in game adjustment PDB, not just game to game. At the very least switch Sorenson and Donskoi.

I'm glad we have two of the top top scorers in the playoffs but we have a third line that can't stop Robert bortuzzo

Need some hertl magic in the 3rd.

At least you can some what watch, my **** is absolutely frozen still with 2:37 left with ****ing directv and it's bs everytime it drizzles. It's annoying in fl especially with the rainy months

I might put Kane with jumbo, move donkey up and sorrenson down

Play affecting penalties need to get ****ing called.

To be fair that's a pretty boss play for a 3rd pairing D

fixed

That's what I would do, but a one for one move seems more Pete's speed haha

That's a pretty great idea considering how Jumbo looks in this game. I thought he had his legs early but he wore himself out earlier in that shift.

Get Sorenson off the 3rd line. **** Thornton and his demands, he sucks this playoff and doesn't get to demand who is on his line. You didn't get it done when you drove the bus and aren't getting it done now. Either be happy to be on the bus at all or get off the team.
Pete needs to step in and stop this madness and run the damn team

Imagine if Ryan did that. He'd be benched so quickly.

2!? More like 3, you know someone is gonna have a defensive break down somewhere. We can have Rask right now and even he would give up 3 or more with the damn breakdowns we have every game

I think it would help get Kane going as well

You know lifes not fair when Boston has recently won a Stanley Cup and they are breezing through without torture heading for another while our fan base has to sit through yet another white knuckle agony game game after game, year after year. For once I just wish we were that good... Our fan base deserves an effort like that. Not Boston. And Boston should not be hungrier right now for a cup than San Jose. This suuuuuucks.

I don't think Sorensen is the problem on the 3rd line tonight. Thornton is.

Logan Couture has 4 more goals that the next highest has 9. That'd pretty nuts!

And again we aren't creating high danger chances.

And he's not done tonight

Kane's forecheck would be huge for that line right now. Either way Sorenson isn't cutting it. Labanc the only one on that line with a pulse.

The problem with line juggling right now is that our only good bottom 6ers so far have been Donskoi, Karlsson, and Labanc, and none of them can really carry a line
It doesn't help that Kane is a bag of ass right now, geez, would be nice if that guy could score a goal once every 15 playoff games

He definitely isn't helping that line. Pete's too afraid to shake up the bottom 6

Boston also doesn't have a 39 year old with 2 knee surgeries centering a line, what's frustrating is they have 2 former shark farm hands legit contributing

Couture has matched Crosby's point total from the 2016 playoff run already.

Cooch to Thornton: Go out there and ****ing score one back ****

More like
"Hey Dad, if your knees are that broken say something"

Nah dude, that MVP was legit

Sorenson looks like a corpse out there. Worst FFrel on that line by a significant amount.

He's not the problem, but hes doing nothing to help and I just dont see Pete moving Jumbo down.

Tonight I think he's been fine but Thornton isn't doing squat. If there's a better man in the middle, the wingers would both look better.

Maybe I'm wrong about Labanc, he has been carrying the 3rd line, but he's nonexistent defensively, so I don't think we can totally really on him without grandpa babysitting him

Sorensen tonight looks like one guy with legs on that line. The other two have been mostly dead in the water. I get that Sorensen has been trash for the most part this playoff run but tonight is not one of those nights.

I think this goes OT. Sharks lost game 2 round 1 5-3 then game 2 round 2 4-3. Obviously now it needs to be 3-3 at the end of regulation to keep the pattern.

Kill it.

Except -27ffrel.

Shark decked from behind away from the puck.

Damn it. I forgot about that terrible call.

Except trash line is all trash so I'm not giving much of a damn about that.

Hertl should have passed that or shot passed it

Page number: 21

E Karlsson or Kane to score a hatrick!

Donk on the Thornton line. I like that

3 goals across 3 rounds? The Kane trick?

This line always getting hemmed in.

kane never gets calls

But has he matched Crosby's 2016 intangibles?

No call?

Gonna take a miracle to win this game.

REF JOSE

... mkay.

Kane literally tackled and no call

I think you mean McKinnon

Time to swallow the whistles I guess.

Turnover. Turnover. Turnover.

Should've been a diving call
Refs ignored it

Time to sit Jumbo for a shift or six...

Thornton can't pass for **** right now

The Blues have been able to do anything they wanted since game 1 without consequence. It's no wonder Dallas had no power plays (even if they barely had shots) in a double OT game 7.
Huge saves by Jones there.

They're like purposefully not putting the puck on net.

Looking sloppy again.

Really anyone can shoot it. I promise. Anybody. Please.

Binnington plays the puck so much more than Jones. 3rd goal doesn't happen if Jones leaves the net.

We really need a shot to score

Sharks like... afraid to shoot on goal.

Damn. Sharks just absolutely refuse to shoot the puck

Page number: 22

Anyone know where I can watch online? For some reason NBCSN took a **** on me

Blues have adjusted beautifully.

woo a shot

Traaaassssshhhhhhh

First shot... pathetic

Score effects?
Never heard of em

Why can't the Sharks do this with one goal leads in the 3rd?

Blues pretty much just sitting back and letting us gain the zone but keeping everything to the outside.

Thornton just does not look good

They have but the sharks are looking for then pretty plays instead of the dirty ones

Holy **** we got a shot. Pete after the game "œit was a helluva a effort by to get that shot off we will come back we really didn't think we'd just take a 2-0 lead in the series, some adjustments will be made"

In b4 the dreaded Pavs-Jumbo death pairing to jumpstart the offense

that may be part of it but our guys aren't taking the shots they've been given either. just dumping it in deep instead. our issues feel unforced right now.

It was an icing and he probably hoped the Sharks wouldn't get beat to it.
Thornton having a very poor game. It doesn't seem like the Blues have adjusted so much as the Sharks seem tired. Both goals tonight weren't exactly conventional (short handed and off a strange rush). Outside of the first, not much zone time or chances off the cycle.

What are you talking about guys? We adjusted
Pete swapped Donskoi and Sorenson, that's gonna fix everything. . . right?

Except Sorensen got moved. So...

Agreed. They also are pressuring our slot guys more and forcing low danger shots. Need to use our speed more here with the Blues on long change.

Can't even remember the last time burns dumped it at the point lol

Yup we're not scoring anymore

oof completely open net.

When St Louis went 15 without a shot the refs bailed them out. So the sharks should get some help, right?

I think they got lucky on that one because they were offside.

Howwww does that not go in or even hit the net

Except not really and it wouldn't matter if he did.

Pavs hasnt really done much today.

Page number: 23

I guess

So overdue for a 5 on 4 goal. Let's go.

That's what we need from Kane. We really need this goal though

Couture hatty or Spott special???

Really need the PP to not look like a dumpster fire here

Would be amazing and miraculously if the pp decide to finally score 1

Damn it, now Steve Spott gets to ruin the rest of my night

inb4 worthless PP

$5 on Spott

PP please wake up

Yay a pp......

Huge rush there for Kane. Slowly but surely, he's finding his game.

a STL penalty???

Yah, Alcatraz is soooooo nearby SJ.

Is Pavelski dying? No? Guess we aren't scoring this PP.

Why'd the blow the play dead when the blues touched the puck? They couldn't be calling a penalty on them so I don't know what else could have happened.

But he made Thomas to take a penalty. I order goal on PP and hopefully tip from Pavs.

EK at the point and Burns loaded up for slots from the the Ovie spot? Please?!?!

Sharks will score on the PP residual just to **** with ya.

Stagnant perimeter passing and failed entries is my guess

Get the nbc sports app on mobile Xbox/PlayStation or computer.

Labancs time to shine here

This is the game pretty much.

Awesome PP so far...

Page number: 24

HFS why cant we enter the zone on the PP. F U SPOTT

Fire Spott he's horrible

I'm disgusted our PP can be this bad with the players we have. Jesus Christ what the **** is wrong g with Spott?

Welp

Why even bother with a pp

Well this is a terrible PP...

They somehow keep getting worse at this.

So terrible it's amazing, if I had thisany back 2 back embarrassing moments I would be fired. Spott is just something

Weak ****en call

Well that was about we expected

Nice dive... again.

Lmao

**** you Thornton.

Oh go **** yourself

Come on Joe...

That's probably the game.

How stupid do they have to be to keep passing to the goalie...

Anything less than a cup win and Spott needs to be fired into the sun.

Cmon Kane, have to bury that.

**** off jumbo you're killing this team now

Elite penalty kill, Pierre?
No, they're just playing against San Jose

Blues go down so easy. Also Jumbo is 2 steps behind everything tonight

Jones banging his stick is by far the most effective thing about the Sharks pp

Thornton should not be on the PP

Thornton having a brutal game.

Page number: 25

I think they all ate poop sandwiches.

Thornton is a ****ing liability.

Wow, everyone in both sides looks like they're skating on jello.

That's almost as bad as the pp

Need to win game 3.

He can't lift his arms and he hesitates, dude injured.

Too many missed opportunities tonight.
Also call an embellishment penalty for once.

Thornton has made literally every wrong play this whole game. It's been tough to watch.

Braun is the biggest deflector on his own net

Sharks look very competitive against the Blues but both teams look out of gas or something.

Need to win game 2 first.

Then get shutout game 4, we've seen this movie

Our PP is so ****ing awful. Honestly for me, the single biggest issue our team has these playoffs.

Intentional offside? No?

Burns, Karlsson, Labanc, Meier/kane, Hertl/Labanc; Donskoi/Nyquist/Thornton. If you can't put up 20% with that crew you should be fired. That's an intentional offside.

Vlasic trying to kill Hertl

Jesus ****ing christ

Jesus Vlasic

Not good

****ing Vlasic... first Thornton, now Hertl... I swear

I don't know why I'm surprised. Thornton always caves when the games matter. Always has, always will. Couture makes him look like a punk

Here. We. Go.

Switched to SN feed. Cannot stand McMilbury

Oh good, because that's what we need... ****.

Our guys need to start wearing football helmets seriously

Page number: 26

Under 20% is not good but it would be acceptable if it would even pass eye test. But it wont.
Damn does not look good. Hertl to dressing room.

Head injury, save us now.

At least it was a Vlasic clear, it was only going about 20mph. Hertl will be back in 2 minutes

Fixed it

What a moron

I feel so bad for Couture and Meier that the 3rd line (aka Thornton) is dragging the team down so much.

"Remember that save, Kenny."

It wouldn't be a playoff round if a shark didn't get hit with friendly fire.

Wow no call?

Sure buddy

Call that **** refs!

**** you refs that's horrible

Usual Ref Jose antics got Timo...

Dammit if it was Pietrangelo but I think high stick might have been Pavelski's stick.

Inadvertent. Okay. Pretty sure that doesn't mean penalties should or should not be called.

What game are the refs watching?
Good to see Hertl back quickly

**** this is bad, RIP our good players

welp this one's done.

GG...

**** this team

They will never win a game 2

Saw that coming a mile a ****ing way...

Dives twice and is rewarded with a goal. He should be 1st star.

Bad giveaway into bad coverage, but Jones could have stopped it.

Jones is pretty awful today.

Page number: 27

Sharks score. Linesman calls the high stick to negate the goal.

They never learn.

Losers.

Sharks really **** the bed on this one. Forwards aren't grinding.

Show the ****ing high stick NBC. Morons.

puhthetic

Haven't really been frustrated with many games this postseason but what the **** was that tonight.

Have a nice evening and night. Would be cool to see if there was uncalled obvious high stick but I bet we wont see that.

Hertls line has been pretty much useless

"I don't know how St. Louis fans can even feel good about this win, the refs handed them the game"
- The main board, probably

Classic Ref Jose making their first stanley cup finals that they bought look convincing.

Well deserved L. Played like idiots.

Take 2+ periods off, what did we really expect?

When you can't get shots off with regularity you can't win. Blues were the better team tonight. Refs didn't lose this game.

Ref jose tho, amirite?

Winning game 2 is for losers. Just ask Colorado and Vegas.

Ref Louis

Yeah a guy who's PPG goes down in the playoffs totally knows how to step up.

Feels like at least half of the Blues goals in the series so far have come less than a minute afternoon an obvious missed penalty.

You guys are the worst fans ever. A good game, lots of chances hampered by ****ty bounces and terrible Reffing. It's a tied series, not going down 3-0

Ref Jose

More like "refs called if fair and Ref Jose lost."

Bad game tonight. Had a lot of chances early and couldn't finish. Couture goes beast mode but everyone else was a passenger for the 2nd half of the game. Jones looked a little shaky. Refs being super one sided. PP is garbage as usual.
Any two of those change and we win the next game.

Reminds me a little bit of game 4 against Colorado, except the Blues have gotten a lot more offensive "luck".

pretty upset

Page number: 28

Hope i stop seeing the "œthornton deserves a cup" bs. Play better if you want to win a cup.

We lost home ice. That's not something to look a as "œoh well it's just tied"

I agree. This was the most frustrating game since the Vegas series for me.

Wrong side of their bipolar personality showed up tonight. Another game where we out played them everywhere but on the scoreboard. Let's go take two in StL!!

5-2 in 3.. 2.. 1...

This playoff run has made me hope that we have a plan for next season to add another C. Joe should not be back at 3C. He is not fast enough for the NHL anymore.

I can't believe anybody would seriously argue that Thornton is a terrible playoff performer at this point.

Who cares what the main boards say or don't say?

Yeah it absolutely is. Win one on the road and take home ice back. It's the ****ing playoffs

Jones is back !

Boards probably ******ing themselves.

Blues have done well against the Sharks cycle. Obviously the Sharks can handle this team with a little more desperation which was MIA in the 3rd period.

It's just a playoff thing. He'll be back to looking like an ageless wonder next regular season and then he will completely crumble by the time the playoffs start.

My only statement is that if the pp wasn't offensive to humanity they likely win this game

Guess we're guaranteed a series win now - woot

Weren't you arguing this the other day?

Playing the full 60 divided by 3

Well said. I'd go further and if any ONE of the above changes, the Sharks win.

You know he meant "isn't"

How did hertl not tap that in

He's not terrible, but he literally never had a great playoff run in his career
Couture, a much lesser talent, already has 2

Sorry, I can't believe anybody is still arguing against Thornton being a terrible playoff performer.

So many missed open nets tonight.

Maybe they all have clauses in their contract paying them per playoff game and they want 28 games to Max out their value.

It seems that we only really play well when we are behind or losing. If we fall behind in a game we play well. If we win game 1, we prefer to lose game 2 and play well game 3...

Page number: 29

Puck just hit him. So lucky.

Wait, I was confused by your wording, nvmnd

womp womp...
Bunch of ****.

Amazing the chances you get when you shoot

I would have been pissed if I had to pay money to watch this game.

Timo Meier has already scored more 5-on-5 points in these playoffs than Thornton did in his most productive playoff run.
Thornton is one of the greatest regular season scorers of all time. Timo Meier is a 22 year old with a career high of 66 points.

Thornton didn't look this bad before his suspension against Vegas. Ever since then he's been a no-show or a liability. Aging really sucks.

**** shot attempts, put the God damned thing on net next time

Ugh, such a great half the game, then they stopped shooting, tried to make the perfect play, so friggin irritating.

Why cant Karlsson shoot

Being a fan of this team is exhausting...

It's in his contract to not shoot

Edit: also I tried. I didn't watch the game and they still lost so

Still think they outplayed the Blues. Need the split on the road

Flush, another game 2 waste.

Classic Sharks game. Carry the play for long periods but don't capitalize and the opponent takes over after a transition goal. PP was garbage, and for the most part I thought our passing was **** all game. Thankfully our PK was amazing and Jones was solid, that's about it for the game. Oh and Couture.

I hate that Thornton is forever tied to that plug getting probably the only goal he's going to score his playoff career.

They beat themselves tonight. Powerplays would have been nice, but I doubt we even score with our pitiful PP.

I don't think we are watching the same game.

I used to think Thornton just had a bad reputation that was undeserved but watching Couture put the team on his back and constantly hold himself accountable has made me lose a lot of respect for jumbo. Cool you can deliver when the games dont matter and played through a separated shoulder one time...couture is out here playing with a herniated back from carrying the team and you don't hear him in interviews like "well I just want to have fun and enjoy the game".
Edit: perfect example. His outright refusal to shoot over the course of a 15+ year career because "I'm a passer". Do whatever it takes you *****

Seriously what is it with these Game 2s?

I felt good about the overall play this game until they drizzled out of the locker room like an embarrassing wet fart for the first half of the 3rd period
Score effects dictate that the losing team should be pushing late, instead we struggled to look relevant

Wonder if Spott noticed how much more effective Burns was getting shots through taking one timers from the face-off circle. Give him the Ovie job on the PP please

Win it for Cooch. Tin Man is done.

Blues suck at home maybe the sharks can take 2 in St. Louis.

Burns will play the point and you'll like it

Page number: 30

If we don't see a cup win this year, the power play will be the death knell.
Ir really needs to do something.
The only consolation is the PK has been pretty good.

I think that that 2016 run really popped a lot of bubbles. Sharks fans finally saw how far you can go when your best players actually play like it.
Just look at Couture's second goal. What would prime Thornton do in that situation? He'd push off, take the puck to the boards, and wait for the team to catch up to him. Against a strong defensive team with everything on the line, the success rate of such a play is very low.

PP has been garbage the entire playoffs.

Yup.
With the exception of that 3 or 4 minute explosion of 4 goals in game 7 against Vegas.

Every forward not on the Couture line has to figure things out offensively.
Way too many missed opportunities and open nets...

Bortuzzo scored the GWG... we deserve to lose.
They need to put Burns and Karlsson on the same PP. We scored on the 5 on 3 with both of them together. We're not gonna get many PPs so maximize the potential of those two together.

Sharks defense didn't show up in this game and they chased the game the whole time. Get back to winning hockey. They never seem to learn from previous experiences enough to put together a couple wins in the playoffs these days.

Steve Spott got some serious dirt on Deboer.

IMO a lot of unforced errors in this one. Sharks couldn't complete the short passes for breakouts and I don't think it was completely because of the Blues forecheck. A lot of times they shot wide or tried to get cute rather than just keeping it simple and getting the puck on net. They blew that one. Credit to the Blues for adjusting but Sharks can be better and need to be.

Don't worry. Spott will get a raise this off-season and will turn it around.
Pathetic PP effort, lackluster performance by Sharks not named Couture.
If the Sharks think they can rely on 7 games and a win, the fat lady is going to sing on them. I doubt this series will go 7.

****ing embarrassing game, makes me so pissed.
Spot's PP is the biggest piece of **** in the entirety of the NHL, not just PP related, there is no excuse for these players to be this bad on the PP. It is going to cost us the cup, if it doesn't stop us from getting there in the first place.

Couture is going to be pissed in that locker room...

Then you'd agree we at least get through this series then haha cause the Blues are somehow worse

Pretty sure a beer league coach could draw up a better PP than Spott.

Can you imagine a PP battle between the Bruins and Sharks/Blues? The Bruins' unstoppable PP vs. the completely inept PPs of the Sharks and Blues. Sharks/Blues have no chance unless penalties get banned.

How ****ing hard is it to draw up a pp with Burns, Karlsson, Meier, Kane, Couture, Donskoi, Nyquist, Pavelski, Labanc, Hertl, and Thornton? Like honestly...is Spott just legit mentally handicapped?

It's truly insane that every time Burns and Karlsson are on the PP together (or when the goalie is pulled) we looked very dangerous... but Spott basically refuses to do it. It's literally not worked for months but no, we must separate them. It's insanity.
Also, Hertl? Where you at, buddy? Maybe he needs Donskoi and Kane can drop to Joe...
A few good things:
-Sharks looked like a significantly better team the first half.
-Couture.
-I do think Blues adjusted to us. There's a misconception that teams "œsuddenly" stop playing half the game, and that's oftentimes "” playoffs particularly "” because the other team adjusts. DeBoer has shown in both series that he's good at adjusting to adjustments. I think we're the better team. Hell, even in the third period, they didn't really pressure us, they just kept it out of their zone and stopped our forecheck. They are very, very beatable.
Let's take 2 in St. Louis.

Boston will have like 2 weeks of rest when they sweep Carolina and we go 7 against these bums.

They could seriously just post up burns or Karlsson in a one time spot and at least hit 20%

Jumbo owes this team a monster Game 3.

It's not a playoff thing. It's an age thing. He's not fast enough.

I still stand sharks are better than the blues, they just sucked like they do every game 2 and take **** for granted. This team would easily score 5 plus a game if they ****ing knew how to finish

Team looked gas with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd and never got there mojo back.
Win one for Jumbo? Keep icing him and we're in trouble.
Hope it's just a case of losers curmudgeoning
Another 2nd game loss. Right on schedule

Why was he an elite 3rd line center in the regular season?
Why has his game always fallen off a cliff in the playoffs?

Page number: 31

He looked really good in game 1 against the Aves. He just has less space and is weaker on the puck, I dont know why he looks weaker.

Jumbo should not be getting more minutes than Nyquist. Nyquist was winning races and making things happen.
Death, taxes, and Sharks losing game 2 and getting shut out in game 4. Sharks better win game 3 if they're gonna insist on getting shut out in game 4 again.

Just 1 game fellas. Still like your chances in the best of 5. Just steal one in St. Louis.

There's generally less space in the playoffs. The better players adjust.

If someone said you could have two Norris d-men, the best player in the playoffs 2 of the last four years, and two of the best power forwards in the playoffs right now..
do you think you could do better than historically bad at coaching the power play? The PK with couture is more dangerous than our power play. That's not bad. That's not cellar dwelling. That is historically epically bad in Las Vegasian PK proportions.

In other news, "Las Vegasian PK Proportions" is now in the vernacular.

WOAH WOAH WOAH Burns will NOT play the faceoff circle. How dare you even suggest something so stupid here. That would NEVER work and all the times it has was pure luck and Burns not listening to our Lord and savior Steven Spott

Spott hacked into OrrNumber4's account here?

Serious question:
Can someone name a single playoff series in his entire career that Thornton dominated?

I'll say this for spott. I think he understands having 88 65 run a pp for 2 minutes likely courts disaster. But his umbrella setup doesn't work.
The idea should be to get your shooters into soft spots. So labanc is the only one ever in a good spot. He HAS to rotate, even cross ice with couture to create shot lanes

Spott still sucks. Zone entries are ****, no player movement, same bs over and over again and St. Louis is ready for it. Also, I can't think of one positive thing to say about Thornton. He just sucks right now. He's weak on the puck and his passing is just ****ty.

Because the game is faster in the playoffs and the teams are better and play better. If that's what you mean by playoff thing then sure. Here's the thing though I wouldn't have called him elite. I would say he's an elite possession player but against good teams his speed is targeted.

That's probably not really true, but I get your point and agree that Burns/Karlsson should be on the same PP with Burns in the one timer spot.
My biggest problem with our pp is the predictability of it. About 99% of time we are shooting from 3 spots only. No movement, barely any cross ice options, Hertl is basically a vestigial limb on the PP because they barely utilize him in front of the net. On that note we have no play whatsoever down low. Why not have Hertl set up shop behind the net every now and again.
And the entries, Jesus Christ, I get it spot you love the drop pass thing, but we don't have a McDavid to force defenders back or risk getting absolutely torched. Also why is it always a single forward moving into the zone with speed, why not have atleast one other player flying into the zone with speed along with the puck carrier, so there are more options than simply dumping the puck to a stationary teammate on the boards at the blue line creating tons of turnovers/possession changes.
I'm no hockey expert, but I can predict where every single shot is coming from on our PP about 95% 9f time. If it's that predictable to a laymen like me, how the **** do you plan to beat a professional goalie. With luck I guess, which is basically what our PP relies on.

The power play is a secondary concern. The problem is that early in the game, they left their leading goal scorer wide open in the slot, they let Bortuzzo walk down to a dangerous area, and weren't effective in getting into shot lanes. They were awful with the puck in the defensive zone. They got lazy. The recipe for the Sharks at this point is that defense leads to offense and they need to stick to that.

St.Louis in 2012.

It's rare in the salary cap era that a team goes 7 games in every playoff series and makes it to the SCF. Only done once by the Kings, and they won the cup that year.

As has been mentioned often, the Hertl-Thornton-Pavelski line was a beast in "˜16. And Thornton himself usually played well against Detroit when we were playing them every other year.

Thornton didn't dominate that series. Thornton dominated score effects.

Red wings the year they beat them in 5

Watch that first goal again. Puck ricocheted off a skate right to Schwartz. Granted a body might be needed there, but tarasenko was trying to shoot on net, which is what everyone read.

The PP drop pass at the blue line is hockey's version of the fade route. A stupid play that kills all momentum and almost never leads to a good entry.

Id argue Pavelski and more so Hertl drove that lines success. Case In point the complete disappearance of that line the second Hertl was hurt

It doesn't matter. The switch wasn't made. The forward needs to slide off and cover the slot. Of course it's a good bounce for the Blues but that's still shoddy defensive zone coverage.

Somehow I feel like this proves my point more than argues against it. His best series as a shark is one we got destroyed in during a season we had no legit shot at a cup. Thornton in a nut shell, play your best hockey when it matters the least

Fact is Thornton was great that postseason and effectively put the choker label to rest for many people.

I think you're asking for perfect coverage there imo. But fair enough

Page number: 32

I'm asking for two guys not to gravitate to one leaving one open in the slot. This is pretty normal stuff for zone coverage. Yeah the bounce was bad for the team but Couture's got to slide off there when the middle is wide open. That is the same type of stuff that Vegas torched the Sharks on. They don't need to be hyper aggressive on puck carriers on the perimeter.

Let's be honest , that was the best game 2 they played so far

I was at the game.. Thornton looked tired and lost the puck and his man way often. He should not play in PP as he was really weak. Without Thornton turnovers this would have been closer.

So was Spott also responsible for making the money drop to the refs?

I'm confident the boys will make the necessary adjustments. With Jones playing well, combined with St. Louis's lack of high-end speed and superstars, they probably figured they go back to a little of their run-and-gun. Fact is they need to continue playing tight team D and to pick their spots when pinching and forechecking.

I think they're going to need to adjust the lines without last change. Thornton should drop down to center the 4th line and have Pavelski center the 3rd.
Meier-Couture-Nyquist
Donskoi-Hertl-Labanc
Kane-Pavelski-Karlsson
Sorensen-Thornton-Goodrow

I agree. Jumbo needs rest and stay off PP

In that playoff run, Thornton was at best the fourth best player on the team (I'd say he was 6th behind Vlasic and Jones), and he was one of the worst players in the final series.
He was good against Detroit, and he deserves full credit for that. However, I think that can be explained by the fact that Detroit (especially in 2010), played right into Thornton's hands. They put their attention on Marleau and let Thornton play his slow, cycling, East-to-West game (that Detroit itself preferred). They stuck to their guns, confident they could beat SJ at its own game instead of adapting.
Anyways, it is past the point. Thornton is no longer a premier player on this team; his history can be rehashed later. Right now, I am more worried about Pavelski/Hertl/Jones/Burns/Karlsson/Kane/Meier.

He dominated the Canucks in ... 2011? Even with a busted shoulder he was the best player for the sharks. There were several other series around that time where he was unstoppable but no one could bury premier chances.

It's ok guys. Loss means lineup changes means Haley returns.

I'd say it was kinda on par with the Vegas one. Stupid goals early, tied it up, then lost it.

Just got back from the game. Thornton wasn't great and it seemed like there was less sustained zone time and more chances were coming off the rush. Thats now how the sharks tend to win games.

I might give you that

well, sharksome game but no need to worry since the NHL and refs will fix this for us - so I've been told by the most credible hockey experts

This felt like an off night where they definatly didn't have their A game but could possible squeak it out anyway but just couldn't quite make it happen which makes it even more annoying. Nothing the Blues are doing is all that scary. Sharks just have to execute a bit better and they can finish this in 5 or 6. Oh well regroup for Wednesday.
At least the reverse sweep is off the table.

6 points in 5 games, but the Sharks were out-scored 4-2 when he was on the ice at 5-on-5. I wouldn't call that a dominant performance from a guy who frequently posted a higher points per game than that in the regular season.

did you watch the series? he was a freakin' monster in that series, then raffi torres dislocated his shoulder and he still was a monster with a gimped arm. He was in the 60-70% CF range before raffi ****ed him up.

That drives me crazy.
Looks like the defensive philosophy is: Flood/trap the boards when the puck goes to the boards. If there's a shot, stand in a certain position so Jones can see. They get burned on rebounds or when the zone breaks down and the shot is unexpected.
I get that they are gambling on turnovers. But, I'd prefer that they also use less aggressive tactics from time to time. Mix up the pressure so the opponents can't always predict the defensive scheme.

Yes, I did watch that series.
I've also watched more than half of Thornton's career as a Shark, so him getting doubled up in scoring is never going to be enough for me.
If they awarded Stanley Cups on Corsi, the Sharks would have more than one. But they don't.

you're not wrong that he needs more playoff production but if you have one line playing 20 minutes running up 70 corsi the other lines had better be able to chip in behind that kind of bulldozing. we had pathetic depth for most of those years.

speaking of thornton, there was literally zero mention of it by the broadcast but at some point in the 3rd(?) he took what looked like a nasty spill and was flat laid out on the ice for a while, and got to the bench in pain. There was zero followup on that but he has no step to lose already.

Thornton has always had his lazy tendencies whether it's his defensive play or how he does faceoffs but he's always been that way.

i think that speaks to defensive depth as much as anything else, ESPECIALLY in goal. Thornton had several arguably selke-level years at this time. If he's only allowing 30-40% corsi against the other team's top line (tmac played strength vs strength) and they are scoring, that's on the defense as a whole. Comparing the Bortuzzo play tonight with that is highly disingenuous. Thornton looks pretty cooked right now. That absolutely was not the case in his late prime.
BTW you may recall he was used as a shutdown/defensive center at this time, and was absolutely buried in d-zone starts during those 60-70% corsi games vs vancouver.

Page number: 33

Thornton did NOT always take on top competition. Off the top of my head, he took on matchups against Dave Bolland and Matt Cullen, with OZFO% well above 50%, and still came up even or negative in goals for %. He was also never used as a shut-down or defensive center lol. That is ridiculous. A guy who was actually used as a shutdown center in his prime is Jonathan Toews who is positive into the teens when he is on the ice and his team is in the minus to a similar degree as Thornton's when he is off the ice.
No, the "his goalies sucked" argument does not work. Okay, why did they suck less when he was off the ice? Over a 100+ game sample size? And why did the defense suck less? Why was Thornton TEN further into the minus than the rest of these guys?
I don't think any of these comparisons are disingenuous at all. I've already acknowledged that Thornton currently is not the player that he once was. But the similarity here is that there is a major drop off from the regular season to the playoffs. In his prime, the drop off was from elite defensively responsible 1st line center to mediocre offensive 1st line center who is a defensive liability. Now, the drop off is from elite defensively responsible 3rd line center to mediocre offensive 3rd line center who is a defensive liability. Watching some of the highlights from the Chicago series, there are plenty of soft defensive plays out there that he got burned on.
Today he was burned by Robert Bortuzzo, but he has been burned in the past by players like Dave Bolland and Nick Bonino. Yes, he has been beaten by Kopitar, Getzlaf, Kesler, and Zetterberg, to name a few. But depth players humiliating Thornton is also nothing new in the playoffs.
Just looking at centers who played over 15 minutes against Thornton and out-scored the Sharks in such minutes, some names like Daymond Langkow, Stephan Yelle, Rob Niedermayer, Jarret Stoll, Trevor Lewis, Mike Fisher, Eric Fehr, and Tyson Jost really jump off the screen in particular. That's not a short list of unspectacular players that have out-played Thornton.

I feel like you're really young and haven't really been following the sharks as an aware adult for that long.

My join date is 7 years ago to the date. Why would you even post this kind of ****? Is this all that you have? What would "following the Sharks as an aware adult for that long" tell me about Thornton's playoff performances?
How is that supposed to explain him playing 44:13 against Dave Bolland, with 66.67% offensive zone faceoffs, getting out-shot 29-28, and out-scored 2-1?
How is that supposed to explain him playing 24:03 against Eric Fehr, with 84.62% offensive zone faceoffs, getting matched in shots 10-10, and out-scored 2-0?
How is that supposed to explain him getting 600 O-Zone faceoffs and 588 D-Zone faceoffs since 2007-2008?
I can keep going if you want, because there are plenty of examples, but I'm really curious as to how following the Sharks as an "aware adult" would change any of this. Would I suddenly become aware that Dave Bolland and Eric Fehr are top competition? Would I suddenly become aware that a 2-1 ratio of offensive zone faceoffs to defensive zone faceoffs is being "buried in d-zone starts"? And that over 50% O-Zone faceoffs on the whole, with his team below 50% when he is not out there, is "buried in d-zone starts"?

Just curious how we'd all feel if we lost game 1 and then ripped the 6-3 W in game 2. Was a frustrating game but bottom line is after losses we usually feel doom, after wins we usually feel confidence. Media makes it worse cuz now it will be about blues have home ice etc etc. It's all bull****. It's 1-1 in a best of 7. Best of 5 now. Road teams can win in playoffs too. Sj should win this series

Rooster calm down bud. This whole Thornton rage has sorta come out of nowhere from you. Look we're already eliminated by Vegas so it's not like we're winning the cup this year. There's always next year.

you seem young because you don't have a good grasp of the trajectory of thornton's career. like you're unaware of the difference between the hawks series and the penguins series.
btw bolland had CF%s of 46%, 37.5%, 31.4% and 51.5% so ... yeah
thornton ****ing CRUSHED against chicago. his shooters didn't finish. as a result were mind****ed into buying high on antti niemi.
it was the rise of the positional goalie, ironically partly precipitated by thorntonian playmaking where you can't read where he's going to pass to and he WILL make the play, so you play the percentages.

The difference being that 2016 was the best playoff run of Thornton's career, and also the 3rd or 4th best regular season? Thornton was literally a better player in 2016 than he was in 2010.
Goodness gracious, that is some kind of hyperbole there...no, Thornton did not CRUSH against Chicago. Not unless you think Vegas CRUSHED us in games 5/6, Colorado CRUSHED us in game 7, St. Louis CRUSHED in game 1, etc. In reality, score is kept by goals not by shot attempts.
I really hate to see all this blaming of Thornton's shooters. He has been teammates with Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau, and Joe Pavelski and has often played on a line with at least one of them. For all of their flaws, those players are literally three of the greatest playoff goal scorers of this era. What playmaker has played with better goal scoring teammates in their playoff career?

Seasons over apparently the pitchforks are out. This board is worse then the main board. This board after 1 loss is omg omg panick trade trade trade.

I hate to say this because I am a huge fan but Thornton is a liability out there right now. He could barely move. I wouldn't be surprised if he tore his acl again. When his line is on the ice they may as well be shorthanded and it doesn't help that Labanc and Sorensen aren't known for their defensive ability. And Deboer is an idiot for putting that line on the ice for a defensive zone faceoff that lead to that 3rd goal. But back to Jumbo, they need to sit him if he is injured to the point where he can't even skate. I know in game 1 after his 1st shift he went to the dressing room and was never the same since.

But back to a more positive note what is the record for most playoff goals in a single playoff year?
Edit: I just looked it up. Kurri and Reggie Leach each had 19. Couture has 13 right now. If Sharks get to the Cup finals, Couture has a shot.

Thornton is a negative in 8 of the last 9 games...

Just watching from different perspectives and levels of experience... Kane had the most ESTOI for forwards tonight. Looked like his legs were going to me and seems like PDB thought so.

I just don't understand why Burns isn't there every PP with EK65 at the point. It's so painfully obvious that this creates the best chance for success.

Thornton is clearly making mistakes out of exhaustion. He's old, not the best skater to say the least, and we're well into the playoffs after two series's going into game 7.
If he gets some rest, he will bounce back. Maybe he could rest for a game. Game 3 would be ideal. But they have to be more careful and keep track of his energy levels, and probably decrease his ice time as a precaution. I think Thornton will play better if he plays less.
I'm more concerned about the 2nd line, which actually is the 1st line going by ice time. St. Louis is the first elite defensive team they've faced so far, and that's probably why Hertl haven't been effective with his dangles. And Kane and Pavelski have probably been even worse. I'm not sure what to do about that line. Hopefully they can figure it out.

No way they win this series in less than 7.

Next game is when Karlsson finally shows up. I swear next game, and if not for sure the one after... And definitely the one after that if he doesn't those 2.... Right???

Switch Karlsson to Kane.

Sharks just need to make smart plays in the dzone and neutral. If so, STL isn't going to score much at all.

True, but his style of play also makes him look lazier than most since he doesn't have to put his head down and hustle to get to where he needs to.
He got burned by Bortuzzo on that goal, but I'm not even sure why he was on him to begin with unless there was a switch. It was Sorensen's guy.

Yeah but game 1 vs the Avs though

He was also at the end of a long shift where he had actually been skating hard. He tried to gamble on the pass to Bortuzzo because 19 out of 20 times Bortuzzo has a better chance of shooting that puck out of play than he does walking around him and putting it in the net because he just isn't that kind of player. Tip your cap for a great play by Bortuzzo and move on.

He got burned because for some reason he was on the forcheck skating back and forth for 15 seconds and he only has about 20 seconds of usefulness this time of year

Seriously, they should play the full 2 minutes of every power play, and then Vlasic-Braun can mop up after them whether or not they score
8-48-39
88-65
28-9-62
88-65
It's the obvious optimal PP setup, unfortunately Steve is an ignoramus and Pete is too busy daydreaming about Demelo to intervene

He also got burned because he played it unnecessarily aggressive. Yeah, nine times out of ten Bortuzzo is not going to make the play he made but there was no reason for Jumbo to come out that hard on Bortuzzo simply because he's either going to defer, he's going to shoot into the pads of Thornton, he's going to get the puck through weakly, or he's going to dump it down.
It's a simple adjustment for the entire team. There's no reason to play super aggressive on the perimeter and leave the middle of the ice open especially against the likes of Bortuzzo. Just let him make his move and go off of that since it's likely a turnover or a nothing play.

Page number: 34

I obviously think some of the blame goes to Spott and I'm all for getting rid of him, but lets be real these are NHL players and really good ones. There is no excuse for a PP with Burns/Karlsson, Labanc, Couture, Pavelski and Hertl being this bad. I think at least 50% of the blame has to be on the players. They aren't performing.

I get that, but I'm curious as to why he was on Bortuzzo to begin with. Usually the RD is the LW's responsibility.

There was a lot of switching on that sequence. Sorensen was below the goal line trying to win a 3-on-3. Braun ended up high as well because of it.

Thanks. I wanted to know, but I'm like Tony Gwynn where I only watch good highlights instead of the bad lol.

Could you please elaborate on this lol... as a Padres fan I'm curious what this means

Is the old, tired argument that Thornton has never been an elite 1C in his career, and thusly doesn't deserve to be in the HOF, coming back around again?
Really, I get tired of this ****. Thornton was an elite 1C for the majority of his career. One of the best and deserves the HOF now.
Who really expects an 40 year old center with the NHL's most worn down wheels to be elite compared to the new elites in their prime?
Really, I don't. Jumbo is darn good still as a 3C. Far exceeding my expectations for an old man.
One of Jumbo's biggest attributes is on the PP, but that's being foiled by Spott, the dog.

You forgot fire DeBoer and Wilson.

One note for those who may have not watched the SJS/CHI series re: Thornton and Bolland. When teams are on the road, the road team's coach gets last change. In the case of SJS/CHI, Bolland was their shut-down center and got played against Thornton's line. I don't believe Thornton's line was put out against Bolland's line at home. So, suggesting that Thornton's line did not take on top comp because of a large number of mins against Bolland's line is just reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how the game is coached.
In playoffs past, Thornton has spent plenty of time being matched against Getzlafs and the like.

Jumbo was quite easily an elite 1C in a far majority of his career but he still had elements of his game that were not up to par. Of course he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Of course he deserved to be in the top 100 NHL players of all time. That doesn't change that he's got some lazy tendencies that tend to bite him in the ass. It only becomes more pronounced as a declining 3C and they need their depth to contribute or at the very least not be a negative on their shifts.
You can shift to blame to Spott for the PP all you want and there may be some merit there but his even strength play has been abysmal after game 1 of the Colorado series. Even for a 3C, that is not good enough. They've had eight games since game 1 of the Colorado series and he's been a negative in all of them except one where he was even with only one assist in those games. For an average 3C, that is not good enough. Jumbo has slightly higher expectations than that.

I think the point is that Thornton got neutralized by whoever he was against including Bolland

Road team doesn't get last change.

He was notorious for only watching the good video of his at bats.

Couture, Marleau, and Pavelski are all top-10 in playoff goals since the lockout. There is no hyperbole there. What better playoff goal scorers did those players get to pass to? I hope you're not referencing Jake Guentzel, because he has never played without Crosby.. Kind of an example of how an elite playmaker should get it done with subpar goal scorers like Thornton always did in the regular season.
This team is not even winning because of depth. They are winning because Couture, Vlasic, Burns, Hertl, Jones, and Meier are carrying the team. Thornton NEVER put up a playoff performance like Couture, Hertl, and arguably Meier have thus far. We best Colorado because Couture and Burns beat MacKinnon. Depth almost cost us that series and you know it.

"You know lifes not fair when Boston has recently won a Stanley Cup and they are breezing through without torture heading for another while our fan base has to sit through yet another white knuckle agony game game after game, year after year. For once I just wish we were that good... Our fan base deserves an effort like that. Not Boston. And Boston should not be hungrier right now for a cup than San Jose. This suuuuuucks."

Add another quarter century to your suffering and then you'll know what real torture feels like.

"Thornton just got humiliated by Robert Bortuzzo. Nice.

Thornton is getting killed

Thornton has been awful since he came back from his suspension.

Thornton needs to stop being so soft defensively.

We better win a cup this year cause I can't watch another Jumbo post season

Thornton looks slooow

Nice D Jumbo...

Haley in for Thornton

Thornton is a negative in 8 of the last 9 games..."

Yeah, this guy totally deserves to finally win a Cup. Suck a dick, Jumbo Joe!

I guess us hockey fans are the biggest fucking snowflakes on earth, eh? Everyone, the league, refs, announcers, etc. are against us, we are entitled to win it all, no one suffers like we do, why are they soooo mean to us.

i would much rather have announcers like eddie who openly declare their allegiances and act that way. which, i guess means what i stated at the start of R2 - i wish they'd advance a given team's announcers with the team. they have multiple channels under their umbrella, broadcast the "home" feed for every game on some channel. let us watch the blues win with kelly & panger. the fucking NBC announcers, at least the west team, are just awful.

Complaining about national announcers always gets a chuckle out of me. Its one thing when they just miss stuff that everyone else can see or act creepy like Pierre, but most of the complaints from FTPs or our own GDTs are just about the national guys "loving" the other team. Well, sometimes the other team does good stuff. Sometimes they kick the crap out of the team you support. It's not bias if that's what's happening. Going from homer broadcasts from team controlled announcers to national broadcasts is a switch some people can't handle. I don't like Milbury because he's out of touch with today's game, misses everything live, and just doesn't speak coherently. Sure, it gets annoying when they're praising the Sharks, but only because that means they're probably outplaying the Blues at that moment.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
