Yes, but I don't think formal retirement was ever on the table for this season. If he did that he wouldn't even get paid for the rest of the year. His contract expires at the end of the season so it's not an issue going forward.

I think this is the correct take. If he were to announce his retirement now, even if he didn't formally file the paperwork, GMs around the league would likely be howling that his 35+ contract is no longer eligible for LTIR treatment and should count fully against our cap. Best to just keep things as they are and announce his retirement on April 5, along with the "Win It Again for Bo" campaign for the playoffs.
