Southside Tony is right pretty much all the time.
Pretty much. Remember he said Tampa was a new entry in the running for Maroon weeks before it happened.

Good for him, but that's not even the point.
Exactly. I had three cups of coffee today. Who cares.

I think that's a little early. Fabbri wasn't going to crackthe top 6 here.

DLR might be a nice addition to the 4th line.

Which moves Sunny D up the in the lines.

I like it.

Rivermanfan wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:05 pm I read, I think on StL online that Fabs had requested a trade from Army before the season started. Army said he would work on it "but to have patience." That may explain some of Fabs play this year. He knew he was on the way out and maybe wanted to accelerate it. Anyway I think it will be good for him. He will get a real shot with the Red Wings that he was not going to get here. A player at his age needs to play, not sit. If he can't back it up in Detroit I think his NHL days may be over.
Yes:

- Blues general manager Doug Armstrong informed Fabbri he had been traded to the Red Wings for forward Jacob de la Rose after the Blues’ 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Armstrong told the Post-Dispatch that Fabbri had requested a trade last summer.

“I asked him to be patient, and then he and I talked before this last road trip and we said if things don’t change I’ll certainly look to see what I can do,” Armstrong said. “Our team was playing good and he wasn’t getting on (the ice). So I tried to help him out and we were able to find a good situation with Detroit. It took a little while to get it done but I’m really happy for Robby because it gives him a great opportunity.”

At this stage of his career, Fabbri, 23, needs playing time. With the emergence of Sammy Blais in training camp and the preseason, and the work of Mackenzie MacEachern on the fourth line, there was little to no room for Fabbri in terms of playing time.

That became especially clear once Vladimir Tarasenko was lost for at least five months because of a shoulder surgery, and Fabbri still couldn’t crack the lineup.

“He missed like a half year, then a full year,” Armstrong said, referring to knee injuries that required surgery. “Then he came back (last season) and he played 30 games. He needs to play. He’s at that point. He’s done unbelievable work in his rehab. But our team’s been functioning well and (coach) Craig (Berube) goes with the group that’s had success. It’s difficult for people to get in there and he fell into that group. But I understand that.”

Fabbri appeared in nine games with the Blues this season, with one goal (scored Oct. 17 against Vancouver) and no assists. Averaging 9 minutes, 42 seconds of ice time per game, Fabbri was minus-4, second-worst on the team ahead of Justin Faulk’s minus-5.

“I’m a big Robby Fabbri fan and I told him that,” Armstrong said. “I really wish him well. We have a lot of players, so for Robby to get this opportunity it’s going to be very good. When he came here as a 19-year-old, we went to the (Stanley Cup) semifinals. Then we won the championship with him. So all my memories with Robby Fabbri are really positive and I wish him nothing but the best.”"

DLR might fit in well here but he’s still just a 4th liner that was waiver wire fodder. The Wings get a player that will get top 6 time in Detroit for a player that nobody wanted. Fabbri is exactly the type of player that Yzerman has shown to covet....even with his injury history. This is the Blues doing Fabbri a favor moreso than having any real interest in De La Rose.

If it was only about doing Fabbri a favor, he probably would have traded him a while ago after he requested it. I think they have at least some interest in DLR, even if that means filling a 4th line spot so another guy can move up.
Berube just never seemed keen on Fabbri from the get go. A guy with no physicality and no defensive awareness doesn't fit with the Berube game plan.

I think the 'last summer' thing may have been misinterpreted, as I'd imagine it meant this past summer of 2019, not over a year ago when in 2018 when he was still recovering from his injury. I mean, that'd be pretty ballsy to ask for a trade when you cannot even play yet

I think Army was probably waiting until he found somebody willing to give him anything he could use at the NHL level. If I'm a GM and Army is calling me offering Fabbri, I don't think I'm giving him much of anything since it would indicate he might be available on waivers before too long. Yzerman is in a position that he can just acquire a bunch of lottery tickets and hope that a few hit. He just traded a $2 scratcher for a $10,000 lotto ticket*.

*This is where I point out what many of you could probably tell...I don't play the lottery very much, haha.

This Fabbri defensive awareness thing that people keep talking about is mind boggling. You do realize that coming out of junior, his two way game set him apart from most of the other players drafted before him? He almost made the Blues roster out of training camp that first year because of his two way game. That came straight from Hitch who said his defensive game was among the best in camp that year.

Just my take, but from what I saw, Fabbri could play defense - when he was motivated to do so. My impression was that he all too often got lazy in terms of coming back hard to help out.
That said, it's my belief that if he had produced offensively, Chief would have been more than willing to put him on one of the top two lines. Fabbri didn't, and that left him with no future here.

I think his mindset changed after the injuries.....his career was on the line so in his head he forced himself to concentrate on what he was which was a point producing forward. That was what is going to earn him another contract. His two way game was solid that first year. That 2nd year he got off to the bad start and it just derailed from there with the injuries.

That may have been the Fabbri out of Juniors, but as well all know, a lot has happened since then. At no point over the last 2 years have I watched Fabbri and thought that he looked like a strong two way forward... or even a strong one-way forward for that matter. If he was, Chief would have him in the lineup

Fabbri used to be as tenacious as Schwartz and that's what made him a dynamic player. Since the injuries that tenacity disappeared, and without it Berube had no confidence in him. I wish him well but no reason to keep a player that won't play. The alternative would have been to send him down but then he would have been claimed with no return.

I am curious now what De La Rose can bring to the table for the Blues. They must figure he can help in some way otherwise they should have just waived Fabbri.

We'll find out tomorrow night vs the Flames as they don't have plans to call anyone up it sounds like.

That “someone” is Jacob de la Rose, the 24-year-old forward acquired from the Red Wings for Fabbri.

“We got this new kid coming and we’ll see how it goes,” Berube said. “He’s supposed to be a good player. So he’s going to have a role.”

De la Rose, scheduled to join the team Thursday night in Calgary, will be thrown right onto the frozen water. He’ll be in the lineup Saturday when the Blues complete their four-game, nine-day trip with a 9 p.m. contest against the Flames.

“Right away,” Berube said. “Jump in with both feet.”

The Blues don’t have a choice because at the moment they have no spare forwards. De la Rose is forward No. 12, giving them enough to form four lines. Although general manager Doug Armstrong indicated he was strongly considering calling up someone from San Antonio after Tarasenko’s injury, that didn’t happen.

Doubt they end up with any regret. He's still a minus for the game cause he is and always will be a 5-5 liability. However, I wish him nothing but the best.

I’m sure he’ll produce a decent amount in Detroit because he’ll get a chance to play PP and top 6. He didn’t deserve that opportunity here based on his play, therefore he was never going to get that chance.

Damn shame as he was a legit top 6 player coming off his rookie year. Clearly didn’t come into his 2nd year prepared, and then the injuries derailed him. Awfully hard to handle that much downtime in a young players development.

Good on Army for sending him to a place where he’ll get an opportunity.
