Re: Brodziak re-signs two-years (950K)

Wouldnt sobotka cry about 4th line minutes when iirc he left the nhl for the exact same reason in the 1st place? Who cares, he need to earn his minutes back. Surely he doesn't expect the Blues to just hand him a spot on the first or second line, that's just not realistic. A lot of the guys earned a...

Re: Brodziak re-signs two-years (950K)

Love it. As mentioned, he's been great on PK. Being able to save the legs of top 6 guys on the PK was a nice change this year. Exactly. Having Upshall and Brodziak on PK1, their counter-attack was awesome too. Having those two guys for less than $2M combined is fantastic value. If Sobotka does end ...

Re: What do you give 17?

Ankle injuries are funny. It took Oshie how long to recover from his injury and I don't think he is the same player even today. Jaden was noticeably less effective after coming back and it remains to be seen if those effects are short or long-term. I wouldn't offer him a long-term contract with much...

Re: Blues re-sign Upshall

If that's all he wants I wouldn't mind seeing a multi-year deal offer extended. But I'm concerned he may be looking for more, say in the neighborhood of $2.5 - $3M. That would make it a tough choice.

Re: Salary cap set

That's less than the 5% the NHLPA can choose I think it is the full 5%. It's not 5% from last year, but 5% from whatever the League's cap equation based on revenue and other factors suggests it would be. If the PA had not used the escalator the cap would've been just below $70M I believe. I think t...

Re: Trade Season Begins

I bet the Blues don't want to make any trades/signings until they hear whether or not the NHLPA decides to use the cap escalator for next season. With a cap budget as tight as the Blues have, knowing an exact number for the cap is crucial. I think I heard they'll be announcing whether or not they'v...

Re: Trade Season Begins

Dregger says he knows the Bruins offered at least a 1st rounder for Shattenkirk. There are also reports that the Blues are making an effort to extend Shattenkirk. Looks like if they can't get an extension done now they will trade him I assume. Have to wonder if getting the Bruins first pick (14) fo...

Re: Vegas Expansion official

So what is the expansion draft criteria if they're just adding 1 team? Is it 8 forwards, 2 D, and 1 goalie? Chris Johnston of Sportsnet provided this expansion draft scenario information a few days ago. Each team will be allowed to protect seven forwards, three defencemen and one goalie – a breakdo...

Re: Lehtera Contract

Yeah, at $4.7M he provides more value than Stastny does at what, 7.5. I mean, neither of them are true #1 centers. But I think Lehtera is getting pretty much fair market value for what he brings to the table.

Re: Fabbri as a center

I like Fabbri as a center and Backes at wing, it's where both of them play their best game. Agree with Doug's center depth chart. I would also like to see Shatty moved. It's a shame we can't afford to trade J-Bo, buy him out, or send him to the minors, but I just don't see any of that actually takin...

Re: Blues Assistant Coach Watch

You know who they should offer a job to - Jeff Brown. Everywhere he goes the team has improved at every level - except the NHL. He obviously has strong ties to St. Louis and can relate very well to young players. I hope they talk to him at least.

R2 G3 Box Score

I find it fairly interesting to see how the box score shows little nuances of the game that I don't necessarily notice watching it live. I find this one very interesting because it's the first time we've dominated a playoff game in recent memory. http://stltoday.stats.com/nhl/boxscore.asp?gamecode=2...

Re: Hitch on Backes

I would love for Backes to finish his career here, I'm just not convinced that's realistic. Even if he agrees to take a sizeable hometown discount, by the time we re-sign everyone else (Schwartz, Brouwer, Upshall,,,) or their replacements there won't be enough cap room. We're going to have to move s...

Re: Moose

Credit the Blues' offense for Elliott's avoidance of the "backbreaker" goals. In past series, just about every goal scored against the Blues felt like a backbreaker because goals have been so hard to come by. Since March, this hasn't been as much of an issue for them. That's a sad, but re...

Re: Moose

I agree with insideout, I think his lateral movement slowed down considerably as the series progressed, as a result of being somewhat worn down. I hope the few days rest here will help but I am concerned that he will continue to regress, and that Hitch won't pull the trigger getting Allen in to repl...
