Regression To The Mean - NY Rangers (WARNING: Numbers Here)

Variability is a funny thing. Or maybe they're not the same team this year as they were last year. But, they've gone from somewhat above average to even more above average. R-squared, 2013 - 2014 vs. 2014 - 2015 point percentage (all teams) = 0.29. http://hockeysimplified.blogspot.com/" onclick...

Re: 1st Period Scoring Woes

This probably bothers me more than it should, I mean as long as we're winning who cares, right? What should trouble us is the total number of goals scored. You can get lucky in poker and draw to an inside straight. But, you shouldn't count on it. The odds are against you. You can win games scoring ...

Re: Goose eggs in the first 30 min

I would add that I have not looked long and hard at the impact of when goals are scored. Just the total scored during the game. What is crystal clear is that, based on last year's playoffs, you can expect to lose if you score 1 or 2 goals. 4 goals just about assures a win. And, the easiest way to in...

Re: Goose eggs in the first 30 min

Re: GDT: Blues @ Flames 8:00 CT / 9:00 ET

The trick to beating the Flames is to not have a big lead going into the third. Blues win a close one 4-3. One to one going into the third on the road is perfect position, apparently. "The game is 1-1, you're in perfect position in the third period," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "...

"Rookie Johnny Gaudreau, the 5-foot-9, 150-pound Hobey Baker winner, is living up to the hype with 19 goals and 53 points in 68 games this season." http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hockey/professional/preview-blues-at-calgary/article_c38249a5-2840-5fff-8524-98f574d9293f.html" onclick=&q...
