Re: You Gotta Earn It!

Management said almost two years ago that this team needed more killer instinct. http://hockeysimplified.blogspot.com/2014/05/edited-out.html If we still don't have that, whose fault is that? Not the players, in my book. TDclap.gif I love that movie. "You talking to me? You must be talking to ...

Re: You Gotta Earn It!

Who picks these players? How do they get on a team with a coach they won't listen to? Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. I should probably elaborate on this just a little bit. The players on the team aren't on the team because they volunteered. They are on the team because you picked them. If they...

Re: Rattie assigned to Wolves?

http://www.chicagowolves.com/team/statistics/ Looks to me like he gets plenty of ice-time in Chicago and those numbers don't exactly scream goal-scorer to me. He's gotta want it more than the next guy, that's all. How would you rate Paajarvi vs. Rattie playing in the NHL this season? Not close, in ...

You Gotta Earn It!

We hear this all the time. You've got to earn your ice time. You've got to earn your spot on the roster. We're going to sit you until you can figure some things out. Why does this seem to apply only to the players? "Ken, we've had some concerns about your coaching over the past several games so...

Re: Rattie assigned to Wolves?

He got leap-frogged by Fabbri, and doesn't play as physical as Jaskin or as fast as Magpie. It's up to him if he wants to be an NHL'er or not. He has to make himself irreplaceable....at this point in time he hasn't. If he's a goal scorer, he needs to score some real goals...with his stick and not h...

Re: Rattie assigned to Wolves?

Does anyone think Rattie may be going down so he gets more ice time and that he will be brought back up when the rosters get extended? Yes, and with Reaves returning, MPS and Jaskin both subject to waiver claims, and Rattie NOT, it made more sense to send Rattie down, so as not to lose some of thie...

Re: Rattie assigned to Wolves?

Lou Korac ‏@lkorac10 11m11 minutes ago Per AHL transactions, #stlblues assigned Jaskin, Rattie & Edmundson to Chicago to make them eligible for AHL playoffs. Then recalled them. Lou Korac ‏@lkorac10 8m8 minutes ago Correx: Rattie assigned to Chicago, not recalled according to AHL transactions, ...

Re: The case vs. Doug Armstrong

On topic... I think Army has to go because I don't think he fires Hitch. And I really think we need a new coach. Slightly off topic... Sorry, I hate to go off on this here, but in no way is Petro an "offensive dissappointment" and in no way is Shatty better than him. Did you watch how bad...

Re: 5v5 CF% Is Bad, Right?

Here's a multiple linear regression: Points by ES 5v5 Goals Scored and ES 5v5 Goals Allowed - R-squared = 87%. http://hockeysimplified.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Actionable? I think so. Try to score goals. How? By putting players on the ice who have shown ...

Re: 5v5 CF% Is Bad, Right?

Perfect timing. Even Strength 5 v 5 PDO R-squared = 0.51. Even Strength 5v5 Goals Scored R-squared = 0.63. Score four, baby! http://hockeysimplified.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And, how do you score goals? At it's most basic level you put players on the ice...

Re: 5v5 CF% Is Bad, Right?

I didn't mean to be overly cryptic. Bottom line, one of the gold-standard "advanced stats" does a terrible job of predicting winning in the regular season. Many examples by team, "low" Corsi and lots of points (Montreal and Rangers). "High" corsi and not many points (C...

Re: 5v5 CF% Is Bad, Right?

please interpret this for the people that may be too stupid to understand what they're looking at. not me, obviously, but i'm asking for those that are too proud to to do so. i think the URL is a bit deceiving. Wait, you're asking the guy who claims to provide statistical analysis to actually provi...

Re: 5v5 CF% Is Bad, Right?

As for the Kings and last season, flipping a coin to predict who will win the Cup will be right sometimes. Many of the "advance analytics" crowd are in a tizzy trying to explain, post hoc (after the fact), why the Corsi darling's the Kings didn't even make the playoffs this year. And, this...

Re: Your Three Keys to Victory

Oh, sorry. #4 - Be sure to kill them on Corsi and Fenwick. That will make the "advanced" stats guys very happy even if you lose. They'll blame the loss on outliers or regression, but they'll be pleased. As one wag wrote about this regular season, "It's too bad the Kings don't play in ...

Re: Your Three Keys to Victory

1 - Stay out of the box. 2 - Be proactive not reactive. Worry less about matching up with them and more about playing to your own strengths. 3 - Score early and often. If you're not scoring you're losing because come hell or high water they're probably going to get two. It's just a matter of time.
